Shoe like a Salamon...

[Closed] Shoe like a Salamon x ultra 3, but not x ultra 4?

Hi all, as title really.
I've worn out my X ultra 3s so need a new set of waterproof walking shoes.

I really liked them, fitted my narrow feet very well, durable enough, lightweight, could go running in them at a pinch.
Unfortunately they are now replaced by the X ultra 4 which I would probably take a punt on were it not for the fact that my wife owns a pair and I don't want to go out identically dressed! (As we seem in constant danger of being, owning lots of Montane, alpkit, osprey gear etc!)

Anything out there similar I should be looking at?

I quite like the look of the Adidas terrex trailmaker but they are quite wide fitting so a bit unsure unless I can find somewhere to try them.

I've just moved from a long run (walk?) of Salamons onto some Scarpa Vortex GTX.
Vortex @ Cotswold

Similar looks, with a much stiffer footbed that's better on the rocky tracks around my way. I can't comment on their run-ability as I don't do that thing 😉

Reviews say the soles wear out quickly; I've had them for several months and not noticed a problem yet, but if they don't get to at least a year I'll be disappointed at that price.

Wasn't there a thread just like this a few months back? Erm:

Salomon has a few option if their last suits your foot shape.

ps: I've used the boot version of the Salewa Mountain Trainer, pretty stiff underfoot and not much cushioning.

I’d get the comfy ones and not worry if I matched my wife 🙂

I used to love Salomon X Ultras but they changed the shape slightly for the 3 and they don’t fit me anymore 😞

I went from x ultra 3 to 4s and I preferred the 3s, plus my 4s have started to stink of cat’s piss when they get damp/wet. I don’t have a cat! I also could do with finding a decent replacement, before the 3s my go to was hedgehogs.

Boreal have always made good approach shoes. Look for a local stockist

I might have said this in the other thread I linked above, but the Salomon X Raise 2 looks like it might be a decent option. I've pretty much destroyed my ancient X Ultras and I think they'll be on my replacement list.

Mrs DB’s Salomons smell of cat wee too - stink the house out. We don’t have a cat either.
