HA ha, we used to think he was the greatest..

I would be really suprised if there were any shills astroturfers/bots on here, the numbers of users are just too low, the eu thread has about 10-15 people on it. It would be a waste of resource to try and influence people on here. EG Daily Mail, Guardian, Mumsnet and Martins money tips they have a massive user base and I could well believe it.
Also it appears to be quite heavily moderated on here and the mods can look at your cookies and track you down pretty fast if they suspected you.

Nice try, shill! You can't fool us!

A few posters only post in the political threads. Weird for a bike forum

It's because people come/came here for bikes the political threads sometimes actually can have a spread of perspectives.

I'm willing for some shilling, but probably need upskilling - will have to get Jeddied (is that the phrase?...)

It's the mate who bids on your ebay auction to bump the price up or the person in the crowd that buys stuff from dodgy market trader in order to make it look like a good deal.

Today I have learnt something new.

There are certainly a few industry-types who often pop up on threads, though mostly in response to queries. I don't think that's shilling, especially if they are easily identified.

There are bike-targeted businesses that promote themselves on here, sailing close to the wind on advertising I'd have said. But it's obvious who they are, so not really shills...

ocrider-
Social media is becoming a bot fuelled flame war, so places like here should be cherished.

Have to agree with that comment.

Astroturfers get banned pretty quickly, when we spot them. Please, report any suspicious posts.

I was thinking more political. A few posters only post in the political threads. Weird for a bike forum.

Or they are more interested in the politics than the other stuff!

Not advertising and I'd not report it, but if someone was doing up accommodation and clearing trails round about, building a bit of profile...

Has anyone in the history of forums ever thought that a good point had been posted and then started to realign their thinking?

Several times. Lots of challenging views and new facts and perspectives presented on a regular basis. I have learned lots from many threads across a range of subjects.

But Capn, you do have to be mature enough to have an open mind, read what others say, not what you think they say, and be happy to rely on facts not fiction.

sq225917 was a shill... Has gone legit now but used to be stealthy, and there was an intermediate spell where we were supposed to believe he was posting on his lunch hour or something 😆

Shill- as explained via a Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson music video. Note: Michael Jackson plays the shill. Enjoy! 🙂

Interesting, you talk like you almost know me, but, in actuality, don´t. Surely an open mind would stop you from making assumptions, even the most incorrect of them. What would I know?
EDIT: I´m not sure, but I think a mature adult wouldn´t be following someone around throwing out snide comments and cheap shots either. But what would you know?

Mods react to what is reported. If you have concerns, there is a Report Post link just down there.

Cap'n, how odd that you thought I was making a specific rather than a general observation. I wonder why that would be the case?

Whilst true, we're also as proactive as we can be. Reports are really helpful though.

A few posters only post in the political threads.

I've read a fair few of the political threads on here and I can't think of anyone in particular that fits that description?

There are certainly some strongly held beliefs on those threads but I think I've seen every regular poster contribute to other non-political threads. And many of them have been on here for years in various guises.

Weird for a bike forum.

I can't remember the last time I even opened the Bike Forum bit. Probably not this year!
