How many do you think there are?
Dunno, don't care. Why do you?
very perceptive OP - I'm impressed
Less than the number of thrills.
OP has misspelled shits.
No idea but it think this product is just brilliant...
STW forums are more known for their reverse shilling (moaning / complaining threads about various products, brands, bike shops etc). ๐
I got shills. They're multiplying and I'm losing control.
OK, I give up. What is a shill? Is it worth (almost) twelve pennies? Eleven pennies perhaps?
It's the mate who bids on your ebay auction to bump the price up or the person in the crowd that buys stuff from dodgy market trader in order to make it look like a good deal. It normally relates to someone that looks and acts like a punter but is in on a con.
No idea how this relates to what tyres you need though.
An Internet shill is someone who promotes something or someone online for pay without divulging that they are associated with the entity they shill for.
At least 2 threads spring to mind...
If I wanted to sell something to middle aged blokes with too much money I would tell them how good it was on STW.
May even tell them what they think about the EU for a few Rubles.
Point the first, there are no auctions on STW.
Point the second, there's a report-post button. Number of reported posts: zero (I counted twice to be sure).
Yes, but if you're willling to be part of the shilling then you would say that, wouldn't you?
It doesnt work like that.
There are marketing firms with a presence on all social media not just twitter and fb but places like stw, mumsnet, digital spy, petrolheads etc
You have a business selling widgets or services that may be used by one of those groups and you can either talk positively about them should opportunity arise or more likely use multiple accounts to both ask the question 'what tyres are best for....' and answer it however instructed.
Nice little business really.
Astroturfing is probably the better term.
What tyres are best for shilling?
there's been a few threads about those airshot type of affairs with the name of the product in the thread title.
Can we join the conspiracy theory threads and shilling one together? It's just I suddenly have the urge to get double glazing and a new watch
I'm beginning to think that there are really only about five posters on here. The rest are just one person who works for a corporation selling coffee, expensive watches, woodburners, turd perfume and bikes.
TBH, the prices that most post on here are so unrealistic, I can't see why shill bidding has to take place ,,,
No idea.
However, a good friend did tell me about this.
I was thinking more political. A few posters only post in the political threads. Weird for a bike forum.
Yes, but are they wearing artisan trousers?
Less than the number of thrills.
Or bellyaches.
My trousers have some stains on them, does that make them artisan?

It's a fair point and having worked for a company that had 'influencer' deals then if you mean are the people posting in here sat in an office propping up or pushing someone's agenda then offcourse there are.
It's a large audience with a very particular demographic.
Same as Mumsnet / Pistonheads
All of the PR / Lobby / Social agencies will have accounts (and persona sheets for each account)
(and persona sheets for each account)
I'd love to see what chewkw's sheet says ๐

Do you honestly think that the volume of hot air, personal digs, sniping and back biting is going to convince anyone, one way or another of a particualr view.
All I see is immaturity where posters have to have the last word, and so much guff that there will never be a shortage of guff.
Has anyone in the history of forums ever thought that a good point had been posted and then started to realign their thinking?
The people who rant on for weeks in the political threads put me off what they are representing mostly so they aren't very good shills if they are one.
Loads on Streetmap.

Shillbottle & Shillmoor in Northumberland that I know of.
[s]jonnyboi[/s] Edward LearYes, but if you're willling to be part of the shilling...
Pretty sure that the Northern Pie Council have a couple of undercover agents active on this forum....
See also the International League of Orthopeadic Shoe Manufacturers.
Spotting a shill among (often very loyal) consumerists is surely akin to looking for a maggot in rice?
Anyway, about this bike I bought...

I've changed my view on Helmet useage after reading links posted on here during the numerous helmetgeddon threads.
I'd love to see what chewkw's sheet says
I think he's gone rogue.
I'd love to see what chewkw's sheet says
Type nothing until caned on spice
Can anyone recommend some good chamois cream?

Yes we all do including you.
The US election and EU referendum discussions were awash with influencers many not even real just Twitter bots.
If you say really wanted to increase bicycle use, what could you do about it, how could you sell the idea? TV doesn't work anymore. radio adverts, newspapers those are all declining media.
You need to go on every forum, every social media site, every local paper comment and win all the arguments. You cant do that on your own(not and have a life).
So you pay someone to do it on your behalf.
Unlikely to happen for bicycle use but with the budget for EU leave or Trump or Commercial activity it would be a small proportion of the budget.
This is what Russia is miles ahead at politically and we are playing catch up.

MTB Coaching came to me (& how many others??) through here - word of mouth style.
HA ha, we used to think he was the greatest..
I would be really suprised if there were any [s]shills[/s] astroturfers/bots on here, the numbers of users are just too low, the eu thread has about 10-15 people on it. It would be a waste of resource to try and influence people on here. EG Daily Mail, Guardian, Mumsnet and Martins money tips they have a massive user base and I could well believe it.
Also it appears to be quite heavily moderated on here and the mods can look at your cookies and track you down pretty fast if they suspected you.
Wilburt +1

I've got a feeling that more and more replies to Facebook posts and tweets by the more balanced newscasters, now that they have been deemed to be the enemy of the people, are going that way. Social media is becoming a bot fuelled flame war, so places like here should be cherished.
Psst. Wanna buy any astroturf?
