Never been much of a spirits man (well other than vodka in my student days). But I've recently happened upon the two hip flasks I own (gifts on my 18th and 21st birthdays so, er, nicely maturing). I figured I'd press one into service, but with what tipple?

So, go on. What's your little secret...?

Hmm. Might be some Calvados bought for cooking lurking somewhere in the garage.

Having said I'm not much of a spirits person, I do have 1/3 of a bottle of Kraken rum in the garage (almost 2 years old).

*starts rummaging*

Empty, but will be replenished with King's Ginger very soon. Or maybe Glayva.

Rum in my flask

Just cleared my attic and found a great vintage glass hip flask, complete with case and supping cup, happy days

Rusty nail is a genius tipple.

Currently running sloe gin in one and bushmills 12 in another. Port is ace when chilled in my salopets ankle pocket.

Mine both live in the 'camping' box for climbing trips etc in the van. One with Laphroaig Qtr Cask & the other with Kraken.

Lagavulin 16

I was gifted a few (half) bottles last Christmas, which have been used to keep my STW hipflask topped up.

Best use was on Arran this summer. We were climbing a couple of remote classics (Sou'Wester Slabs and South Ridge Direct) and had an epic (ropes got stuck on a traverse and wouldn't pull through).

We topped out after about 13 hours and still had a 3 hour down climb and walk out to go. We were buzzing but exhausted.

My mate, almost unbelievably, said "I would kill for some Lagavulin", which is his favourite whisky.

I asked if the 16 would do, pulled the hipflask out of my pack and handed it to him ๐Ÿ™‚

The look on his face was brilliant. Made the walk out more bearable!
