Hi,

I am looking for a self pitch campsite less than 6hr drive from a ferry terminal. So many options so I thought I would ask for recommendations. I will be on my own with my 5yr old daughter, so pool, beach, river and activities would be good. Looking for summer holidays.ย  Any ideas?

We stayed at Camping La Vallee at Houlgate last summer.ย  About three hours from Calais.ย  Two pools on site, including water slides, football, volleyball,ย  tennis, archery etc beaches just a few minutes walk away.ย  We went on a canoeing trip near Falaise which wasn't too far away.ย  My kids loved it.

We've stayed at municipals loads of times and always found them fantastic. The islands on tbe west coast are lovely, Oleron might be a bit out of range but we loved it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bit further afield: Hourtin. Campsite (unusually) next to the sea so no vehicle moving/parking hassles, bit of summer surf, tidal pools for little kids to play in, near to the Medoc for wine purchases, pine forests and fire roads, a few decent eateries in the town. I used to take my kids for a month each year on this coast and they never complained about the jouney...I've driven from the east midlands to the Pyrenees (Aramits) in a day, it can be done.
