getting terrible reception for freeview channels up here in scotland this year, was thinking of one of those self installs - do you just put it up, point it right way, and put the coax in the back of your FREEVIEW SD or HD decoder? or do you need a specific SKY or FREESAT decoder as its a satellite signal not an arieal one?

something like this :

thanks for any info.... ๐Ÿ™‚

That'll be fine for Freesat - you need a specific satellite decoder

The satellite you want is at 28.2 deg East [of South] so at this time of year @ 11:08 in the morning it's pretty much inline with & just under the sun

Online alignment tool that uses your postcode.

Also gives the rotation/angle of the receiver on the dish arm.

The problem with using that info is that the LNB skew angle is in relation to the ground not the dish arm so unless you got the dish mounted perfectly vertical to the ground it'd just be a guess anyway

In the UK it's just as good to set it to about 1 o'clock and fine tune later if needed, most times it won't be critical anyway on modern boxes

I believe Rod Hull had some bother with his. Best left to a dry, calm day.

Put a 1.2 metre dish in the back garden last year in order to get Astra 2d (freesat).
Not a lot to it, providing you do your research.

Don't you need a meter these days? I fitted a Sky dish a few years ago and it was a bugger to line up without a meter. Much easier when it was analogue.

Yeah, a meter is pretty much essential but they are only a few quid.

And if you want to use a computer, buy a DVB-S2 card. Needs S2 for hd channels.

I tried using a compass to get the bearing correct. The trouble was, every time I placed the compass anywhere near the dish, the needle went off line. Clearly the dish was creating it's own magnetic field. Time to buy a meter from Argos I think.

I put my own dish up. The best site for info was http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/

Pretty much tells you the exact bearing wherever you are.
