Granted TJ but we've all seen winds like this before though. I go with NoBeer thought they damned if they do and they damned if they don't.

151mph gust on Cairngorm Summit apparently.

Is the school still there? Was it open?

I don't listen to media hype and scare stories.

It's the police, not the media, who are advising people to avoid all travel and stay indoors.

So far, nothing out of the usual here. Seems like just another windy day. We're right on the western outskirts of Edinburgh (fields and trees next door) and at 200m altitude.

It's a bit different where I am.

I was out on the bike between 9 and half 10 this morning. A bit blowy but nothing much. From about half 12 it's been getting steadily worse. 3 trampolines, including ours have been blown over. Luckily ours is chained to a fence. The others made it into others gardens. Neighbours wee fishing boat has blown off its support thingy. A caravan has also been getting closer and closer to the bottom of the hill which it was parked. Wheelie bins have taken the expected kicking aswell.

Definately not weather for anyone to be out and about in round here.

BoardinBob: yep Nevis now saying they can't open this weekend as the lifts are damaged. Glencoe say they won't open tomorrow but will evaluate for the weekend. They've also got damage to the lifts apparently.

seosamh77: love it. Oh My God. Trampoline. Trampoline. 😀

Down in leith its the worst wind I have experienced for years. last time we had wind like this a 10'x20' piece of my roof ended up on the other side of the river. a few slates gone so far.

I know that but it's the media who come out with stromageddon stories.

(SKI) School was closed, but it's still there.

Phew!

Ah! They're closed and that's it, maybe they were right maybe they were wrong but makes no odds now.

The Glencoe anemometer is currently dismantled, lying on the floor and weighted down by a rock, but it just recorded a gust of 69mph. The Glencoe carpark weather station is showing 100mph+. Cairngorm recorded 151mph. Record for CG and UK is 176mph.

Never mind TJ - you can get the council to come in and sort your roof out for you.

Druidh - Arrrggghhhhhhh! Nooooooooo!

About hurricaqne bawbag
Sensitive souls may want to look away now, but according to folklore it’s a vulgar Scottish term used for the scrotum, also derogatively against anybody who’s a bit of an idiot. (For example, Jeremy Clarkson may often be thought of as a complete bawbag. Matthew Wright was definitely a bawbag earlier in the week. And so on and so forth.)

Wife was sent home from work earlier. Just had a phonecall to say that the window next to her desk has blown in.

😆

Stat Notice you say? I'm afraid that all of the council employees who were on 'gardening leave' have been blown out of their garden deckchairs and won't be returning to work.

Not usually a twitter fan but the #hurricanebawbag tweets are keeping me very amused. 😆

Love that the BBC are calling it #scotstorm along with, erm... nobody else.

Just been hit in the face by a piece of my workshop roof. If it had happened 30 years ago it would have been the child version of my face.

Jeebus. What's caused that? Friction due to the speed of the wind rotating the blades?

If they could keep them running in these winds then Scotland would have enough power reserves to last for most of 2012. 🙂

They're meant to stall at 25-30mph - the others in the picture have done that.

I'm tempted to go out for a wander to see what all the fuss is about.

Sent home from work in a shipyard in the west end of glasgow and now sat in my flat on the 11th floor listening to the wind howling and hoping to fly south tonight. Not sure it's looking too promising..!
