So this year we have the opportunity to stay with some relatives just outside Santa Cruz (Aptos). What are the must see attractions in the area and more importantly, what is there in the way of biking? We're planning on being there for 14 full days.

Thanks in advance.

lucky things! I went when I was 16 with my folks... I mainly went round taking pictures of old skate spots and skating so have nothing of value to add. I just remember having the best time, plenty to do.

Drive south down the coast (HWY 1) to Hearst Castle.
The Big Sur coast is worth a few days.

Plenty of biking, try asking here It's a great town, say hi to Keith Bontrager if you meet him.

I believe a lot of riding is to be had around the Uni campus.

Go see the bridge from Lost Boys.

In town there is quite a bit to do, mooch around the old Vic buildings, check out the boardwalk and the fun fair. Pier for fishing or listening and watching the sea lions. Its a surf mecca with Steamers Lane worth a visit. On the other side of the river is another great surf place Pleasure Point. UCSC is worth a visit, an amazing campus. Fun town easy to get up to San Fran, San Jose is a bit meh.

Enjoy.

Monterey aquarium is awesome just down the coast. Whip over the hill to Los Gatos and chilled with the dotcom millionaires.

My good friend(grew up in UK) and ultra marathon runner owns the old fishermans wharf in Monterey. Great coffee and food. He knows all sorts in the area run, swim or cycle! Ask for Ben in the coffee shop!
