[Closed] Samsung browser won't load STW, any ideas?

Since the Samsung browser app updated a few weeks ago on my Android tablet, it won't load this site. Wondering if anyone else who uses this browser has the same issue and if they've found a fix?

The browser works fine otherwise, loads every other website without an issue. When I try to view STW, the page loads initially, I can see all the thread titles etc. then when it's about 80 to 90% loaded it crashes and I get this message on the browser page:

"Tab has crashed. An error occurred while displaying this webpage. To continue, tap reload or go to another page".

Reload does nothing except cause the same error message. If I have multiple tabs open, they all work fine apart from the one I'm trying to view STW on. The browser is stable and works perfectly otherwise.

Things I have tried:

Switching it off an on again!

Forcing the app to stop and clearing the cache.

I could just use another browser, but I like the Samsung one and it works fine otherwise. Any ideas?

I would.

You could try emailing Tech but I doubt you'll get any traction, I don't think it's a supported browser.

That's weird, I HAD this exact issue a few weeks ago after I updated the browser, I then sent an error report to samsung, used chrome for a few days then Samsung internet seemed to work so I assumed they'd fixed it. Still working fine on Samsung internet now so not sure what's going on!

Same happened to me, i think i uninstalled the app and reinstalled it via the google play store instead of through the samsung store and it works now. Might have been the other way round.

It's this website tbh.

Of all the sites I've browsed on multiple web browsers I've never actually had one that can't always remember my credentials, can't remember pages I was on when I log in and sometimes goes into a "logs me out" when trying to access loop.

Yeah, I had to switch to Chrome which resolved the issue.

OK. I know it's not Chrome, Safari or MS Edge but there are more than a slack handful of Samsung devices out there. Surprised it's not supported.

Find the Samsung browser in your Apps, then delete or empty the cache for the browser.

When this topic came up a couple of weeks back I was quite shocked that people were actually using the samsung browser!

I didn't think anyone used these type of stock browsers, although I think most are chromium based, so should kinda work, they may obviously have thier individual nuances depending on how they have been customised.

To be fair Chrome doesn't play well with Samsung hardware either in my experience. Facebook in particular is glitchy, have to use the Samsung browser to post on it. I also keep getting the tabs disabled on Chrome, any site, have to rotate the tablet 90 degrees to unlock them, that only started jyst before Christmas.

As mentioned in the OP, already tried that.

I've had the Samsung tablet it's on for 5 years and used the browser every day since. I've never had this issue on any other website. Samsung phones and tablets must be some of the most popular Android devices. There must be many millions in use, why would you be surprised that people use the browser that comes with them?

I really like the samsung browser, much prefer it to chrome. I do get logged out this site once a week but that happens on my desktop pc too.

It seems to have resolved itself now (i think my phone has had an update) but for a time I couldn't get STW to load a thread on my phone at all - didn't matter if it was Opera Mini, Chrome or Samsung Internet

All of which can run a choice of any number of browsers.

I'm not certain anyway, I said I don't think it's supported but I could easily be mistaken. I'm working from memory / an educated guess but I'd be surprised if any [insert handset manufacturer here] proprietary browsers were supported other than Safari.

STW isn't an organisation like Google or Microsoft, their web dev team is just two people who are stretched incredibly thin as it is. I would hazard that the chances of them finding time to investigate some random undefined change Samsung have made is likely to be fairly slim.

But as I say, I'm guessing. There's a [help] button on every page where you can report faults.

Try Opera, as has been said up there ^

If it'll load on your phone my money's on you liking it

Doubt it’s anything STW did as it started after a Samsung update. It’s Not just the forum, anywhere at singletrackworld.com crashes it and I’ve yet to find another page that causes it. IANA Middle Aged IT Bloke but as the page initially loads then crashes it seems the browser has a problem with an ad script or something. Hard to google a fix as I don’t know what the nuts and bolts of the website are.

I’ve got no attachment to the Samsung browser though it’s slightly annoying I’ve now got to use two web browsers instead of one.

In defence of STW, Cougar has hit the nail on the head again. There are far more important things tech can be working on. Just install another browser and use it for STW and use the Samsung browser for all the other websites you visit...far easier than trying to push a big rock uphill!

Yeah, my A50 had the issue for a couple of days after the update.

Cleared the cache and deleted cookies, turned it off and on again and it works fine now.

Samsung browser?!

Even my Samsung phone came with Chrome!

Chrome or, if you're feeling paranoid, Duck Duck Go.

Thanks Drac, but no I won't. I prefer it to chrome and other browsers on my tablet and for every other website in the universe bar one, it works just fine.

I like STW so I will reluctantly use another browser, just for one site. Thank God none of the other sites I use dish out the same "helpful" advice, not enough memory or space for browser apps!

So did mine. It's a funny old thing, but I like to use the one I prefer not the ones other people tell me I should use.

Do you get to ask the question and receive a response on many other sites?

I like to use the one I prefer not the ones other people tell me I should use.

Do you knock screws in with a hammer because you prefer hammers?

I haven't needed to because they all work fine. I'd expect that if I did, I wouldn't get their staff chipping in with zero help and sarky comments.

I'm no IT expert, but I'd suggest that's not the best analogy for someone using an internet browser to you know, browse the internet?

You carry on kidding yourself Samsung can't write software for toffee and STW developers are perfect. And taking the piss out of anyone who dares raise an issue and effectively telling them to "jog on".

Please close the thread. It's serving no purpose, I'm sorry I troubled you.

Allow me to manage your expectations there.

We aren't "staff," we are volunteer moderators. We look after the content and provide free help to users where we are able to for no other reason than the love of the site. The sarcasm is provided for free also, it helps us keep a hold of our sanity.

Oddly enough, I do actually know a bit about IT. There is, demonstrably, a compatibility issue between the site and the Samsung browser which has been introduced following an update pushed out BY SAMSUNG. We / STW obviously have no control over Samsung's browser which is why I suggested trying something else.

And sure, in an ideal world an army of web developers would drop everything in order to chase down whatever ephemeral bug in either the core site of one of a hundred third-party plugins is causing the problem in a browser preferred by maybe 3% of users.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, as I said STW employs two web developers. There is a to-do list of bugs to fix and new features to implement on a roadmap which spans months and months, and everything is prioritised. I could be wrong but I cannot envisage a scenario where a problem with a minority browser gets bumped to the top of the pile when there's a very simple workaround you can use which you're simply too stubborn to do.

Consider also, STW has no control over third-party code so if it transpires that this is what the browser doesn't like - which is highly likely - then they'd be reliant on that code's maintainer to resolve it. In which case the only solution until it's resolved upstream would be be "don't use that plug-in" and that might not be a viable option.

There is merit in asking "is it just me?" but if you wish to raise an issue then I suggest you jog to the penultimate post in the FAQ where I've explained at length how to do so.

@blokeuptheroad et al, happy to report it's now working again on my galaxy tab.

Maybe Cougar pulled his finger out and fixed it 🤭

Just had a look, and yes it's working again (I've been using a separate browser solely for here). Good stuff, ta for flagging that up.

About time the slacker. Has more time off than Clint Eastwood's safety catch so I heard 😮😉
