There was an STW question some 15 years ago about people in showbusiness we do not like and I named him and was criticised for not understanding his comedy genius. But the thing is I knew someone like him once - who was equally charismatic in the city centre bar he worked - he got a lot of attention and was fairly dodgy.

Seems a random thing to put out in front of a court case.

Was he speaking from behind the presidential lectern?

Trying to muddy the waters as much as possible?

No idea what put me off

Because he was never funny?

There’s quite a few so-called ‘comedians’ around who I can’t bear to watch, Michael McIntyre being a particularly unfunny example, running around the stage talking very loudly, yet never saying anything that is actually funny, but Brand always looked greasy and dirty, and in need of being hosed down and scrubbed with a floor brush and industrial strength disinfectant; without knowing anything about his podcasts or anything like that, it was an instinctive sense of revulsion, which now seems to be based on fact.

Ahh I caught another interview, not the PM one and he was explaining that the age of consent in the U.K. was 16.

She hated him in ‘23 but since he’s took to God its all good and they are after him for his covid stuff.

So it’s all for his American market as that age group puts him in their underage Epstein/Andrew sort of bracket which probably doesn’t  help the Brand.

IMHO He’s eyeing up a job in his own church after/if he gets convicted or just carrying on what he’s been doing.

Still we know a song about this 🙂

Studying the ultra-right Alternative media presence in 21st USA is going to keep academics busy for years to come.

His religious/spiritual convictions have the structural integrity of wet cardboard.

An utter pelmet.

Me too. Though the fact that other people do or don't like a comedian is entirely down to people being individuals and having different senses of humour.

Agree with you about Brand as a comedian, I just never "got" him. Was decent as a voice actor in some animated stuff though.

The guy is clearly a nasty bit of work but have you clocked who else is in his particular version of the church and his new best buddy? Bear Grills, now I've never had any time for him either, his fame is all about fake adventures but there's a whole load of kids who have grown up with him being a "positive" influence through his time as Head Scout.

Chief Scout got changed around the time that link was revealed, and most people who met Bear Grylls through Scouting thought he was a knob anyway.

I knew it'd changed but there's still a whole load of promo about with his smug face all over it. Had to explain to my kid that wanting to be an adventurer was cool but being like Bear was not... And then gently answer a whole load of slightly difficult related questions as to why.

Narcissists with ego's the size of a continental shelf, who dedicate their entire lives to self-agrandising and self-promotion, turn out not to be very nice people?

Who'd have thunk it?

Got to say, Dwayne Fields, the current Chief Scout, is a great appointment and more inspiring and worthy of the position.

TBH it’s always been the same , as a kid in the ‘70/80s I thought the comedians were a bit shit.

I just always find it funny how Jim Davidson always bangs on about being cancelled but his humour had a sell by date.

They even mention Benny Hill was cancelled but TBH again the style of comedy had a sell by date and these people were happy to be all over TV without letting any fresh talent in.

They got cancelled because they didn’t get the viewing figures.

I did love Kenny Everett as he was fresh and TBH I think he would still be good if he was around.

Ali-G was also a fresh blast and tbh I always laugh when people say they couldn’t make comedy like it used to due to political correctness well it’s not true, comedy can be biting and rude just not lazy.

Bear Grylls did get Scary Spice to wazz on him, though.

My eldest "met" him at an event yesterday, said he came across well. He was not a fan of Bear Grylls after similar interactions.

That clip of Brand trying to find the passage in the bible is absolutely wince inducing.

Interesting tidbit on this evening's Guardian Today podcast: apparently, when Mandelson was appointed US ambassador, the other two contenders on the shortlist were George Osbourne and............

.......Bear Grylls!

Makes you think.

There's still a Brand skit if you go direct to his feed.

Thanks. I was wondering if there was something more up to date about the bible "reading".
