No, players wear the shirt relevant to their starting position.

I can see is the bench backs dont look like they can add much pzazz if England are behind

Slade and Nowell aren’t bad but I can see your point.  I suspect it’s because he needs both those to get some game time though, plus also he’ll push the starters to finish the whole 80 mins to prepare for the bigger matches (hopefully) about to be played.

Georgia were in the game until 60 minutes or so, but Fiji are tearing it up now. Look so dangerous in attack, give them an inch and...

Another rugby non-follower question for you.

Do players have to wear the jersey of their position?

Ar fly halves always 10, full backs 15, number eights, er, 8?

Dont think so but all switches are usually minor, some like SA have openside flanker in 6 not 7 and some outside centres like Guscott didnt like 13 so wore 12, that was a hangover from Bath his club not having a 13 shirt, they used to use letters as I recall.
Tipuric often packs down at 8 in scrums on their put but wears 7 still and packs down at 7 in defensive scrums.

Me too, Nowell seems to misfire in big games. Shame as he plays very well for Exeter. Its a weird job he does because he isn't really a wing. But he has been useful to them. I always think Exeter are going to win the Prem Final but Saracens are a cut above.
Slade is mercurial, he can be bloody amazing.
The missed try with Daly last weekend was all Dalys fault, he over ran his support.

I like Nowell think he's a quality player but if you need a game changer not sure he's your man. Slade has never really impressed me that much. However with the back 3, Tuilagi and Ford Englands starting backs dont really need more pzazz.
Good teams might target Tuilagi's decision making and outside shoulder at 13 and Daly's positioning at 15, other than that you have to stop the big runners on the gainline, no easy task especially if Mako comes back in.

Slade has never really impressed me that much.

I've seen him against Wasps and in the last prem final vs Sarries and obvs in internationals. Every time they play Wasps you can see Slade running the game, he times his runs perfectly, his offloads and distribution are really good. I feel like his time should come..

I know what you mean but Nowell is always a bundle of energy when he comes on with an incredible work rate. He carries the ball from anywhere and is handy running at tired defenders. Slade and Nowell can also cover 10-15 between them.

Ireland back to winning ways but their supporters here have all gone quiet!

Bath used numbers but no 13 so full back was 16 - Richmond did the same. Bristol and Leicester used letters, Leicester followed modern numbering order hence ABC front row, Bristol has full back as A (Full backs used to be No 1 in the 50s.)

I thought it was a bit of a boring game really. But Ireland must be happy with the 5 pt win.

Yeah I don't quite get the Daly at 15 thing. He's a quality rugby player, no doubt, but his best position is outside centre. The problem is that England have an embarrassment of riches at 13 so Jones has to find a place for him. I think Watson should be at 15.

Daly's pace is pretty devastating from 15.

Watson is quicker I suspect.

Italy, Italy, Italy, crazy. Just when they had a chance to get within sight. Hyped up after halftime, but even so, how ridiculous. One red card, two red cards, I don’t suppose it makes much difference. It had felt like some colour of card would come sooner or later.

What a bloody awful tackle by the two Italian props.

So how is Quaglio going to get off the pitch ? There seems to be a contest going on between the Italian props.

I think that Italy may have to call up some extra props for their next match. I think that Quaglio may be cited and banned as well. Shame about Kolbe's injury, I hope he recovers quickly.

Big day tomorrow.  Let’s see if England can look like a winning team with some better opposition.   Somehow I fell I’m coming away disappointed, albeit with a win.

I've just seen the incident. WTAF?

The whistle had gone, they ball was dead. The two Italian props just mugged the SA player.

Dafter still they were 5 meters from the SA line with penalty advantage.

Its probably the daftest thing I've ever seen on a rugby pitch never mind a world cup match

You say that but Ireland have looked ropey this tournament aside from the Scotland match.

Aside from NZ, no one has looked consistently good. Tomorrow is a big day though, Argentina will be well up for it fighting for everything.

I have this feeling, which I’d be too pessimistic to admit to if they were my team, that England are going to blow both Argentina and France away.

Lets hope so.  If we do don't we face the two most punchable faces in the RWC and the rest of the Aus team?

Personalities aside, Simmons, Curry & Itoje vs Pooper as they are apparently now known will be interesting viewing.

Further to the discussions on anthems I thought I would look at the argentinain one

Mortals! Hear the sacred cry;
Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
Hear the noise of broken chains.
See noble Equality enthroned.
The United Provinces of the South
Have now displayed their worthy throne.
And the free peoples of the world reply;
We salute the great people of Argentina!

And the free peoples of the world reply;
We salute the great people of Argentina!

May the laurels be eternal
That we knew how to win.
Let us live crowned with glory,

Or swear to die gloriously.

Its a bit better than most. Nothing about smashing your enemies to a pulp.

Yellows aplenty for the Aussies.

Will still win comfortably, but could they see a cumulative red?

Lucky You, I have been banished to the iPad. Worse; According to herself apparently it doesn't matter if it says "breakfast stout" On the tin. Bit spicy this! Thats two shots on Faz. I will officially feel sorry for him from now on; or not. But can't help feel he should be off for a HIA instead of taking a pen.

Agreed @Duckman, a bash on the head like that should be checked even if there are no immediate symptoms. Both for the player's health and for the example it sets.

A shame this.  I'd rather England played a full strength team.

Not the first Early from Tuilagi this year, he needs to be careful.

So many dropped balls. It’s almost ruining this WC.

Coaches like Cheika refusing to acknowledge the high tackle changes are in danger of spoiling it too.

Arentina stone wall red.

Having watched the impact a few times, I cannot stop myself seeing Farrell notice the shoulder and aim for it.

Really? I know most on here hate him but that’s stretching it a bit. Actually quite a lot.

Ford needs a whirl at place kicking given that Farrell has missed all of his so far.

Is it me or is the commentary ridiculously optimistic in favour of England.  “Under control” “Placing the ball where the want it” “about to score at will”. Hmmm.

Farrel 0 from 4 pretty much demands an HIA I feel.  Nervous for Billy’s ankle also, so I’d like to see Farrell off with Slade in, and Billy off for Lawes, Itoje goes to 6 with underhill at 8.
