Anybody still think Russell lacks enough game management for the lions?

That performance has been coming for both teams, both England who have been average but been able to beat people as do have some good players and are big, and Scotland who also have some good players but also a collective purpose and some decent coaching.

The Jones experiment can end now please he is not a good coach.

Well played to Scotland though thoroughly deserving, keep up that intensity please. Redpath looks a good find, decent backrow and some pacey backs.

That's got to be the best Scotland performance since they beat Australia in 2017.

That scoreline flattered England. Scotland were totally dominant.

And no Russel has to go on a Lions tour he is a point of difference. Farrell too limited to unlock defences, Ford is the better 10 of those two.

stevenmenmuir - let me enjoy it please! I have been a scotland supporter for 45 years. Moments like this do not happen very often. I remember to dog days when Shug Lamont was our best back!

I don’t think he did enough today to get in a test team. And he made too many mistakes.

England were bloody awful, we didn't score any tries, gave up umpteen penalties, got very few turnovers, lost the ball in hand, lost lots of lineouts and scrums, and knocked on quite a lot. That was shyte. Scotland didn't do any of that, really all they had to do was turn up, we gifted that game.

Totally dominant pack but didn't steer them, no idea if anyone else is better though. Who tried the drop goal at the end that was ****ing stupid beyond. Fas will improve that was his first game for months. I'd say Sexton is passed it but I'm very worried about Wales being pasted tomorrow!!

we gifted that game

I’m sorry but I think your doing Scotland a disservice there. They outplayed England fair and square. That for sure was not the best England performance any of us have seen, but Scotland were not gifted the game, they won it.

I dunno, if they had outplayed us they should have scored a brace. The one good play was the try. To me when England had the ball they looked v dangerous, problem was all the stupid mistakes and coughing up the ball. Scotland didn't look dangerous in attack at all. Yes they deserved to win, they kept their discipline and game plan and capitalised on most of our mistakes. But they were not that great either.

5plusn8

3 good chances missed by Scotland plus others. 8 pts in kicks as well. Scotland totally dominated Territory and possession. Turned England over a few times and hardly missed a tackle. Didn't drop a ball that I remember

Scotland should have scored 15 more points at least

England never had the ball, when they did it was so far behind the gain line it was a different postcode, so they kicked most of it away, and very badly too.

How many visits to the 22 did they make? At no stage did England look dangerous, Scotland beat them in all areas and comfortably too!

TJAGAIN exactly. Should have been 15 more. Why not?
Not that good that's why. Sorry.
You wanna see good? Look at France beat England last year, we played our socks off, but France were just better.

8 pts in kicks as well.

If you don’t kick them, they don’t count. Scotland deserved to win, but they were somewhat lucky England didn’t steal it off them in the end.

A good part of the reason England looked so poor was scotlands defense and breakdown play was so good

How drunk are you tonight tj?!

I hope that Scotland can maintain that performance through the tournament.

England were outplayed. I was hopeful at the outset as I think injuries create opportunities and generally cause team rotation. Mark Wilson and Billy were fairly anonymous. Tom Curry tried hard but don’t make an impact.

England need a shake up. Maybe this can be the catalyst!

Must have been pretty tense as a Scotland fan knowing you were only one fluke England score away from losing despite the dominance (and something that England have done many times to flatter themselves). Unfortunately playing bad but winning means that the problems don’t get resolved just the cracks papered over.

This looks correct, but I can’t help feeling Scotland should have done more to eliminate lingering doubts. As 5plusn8 says, Scotland did not look threatening. Especially not when we’ve come to expect their pace and attacking flair.

There’s a long way to go in this Tournament and this game has opened it up.

Ireland must be licking their lips having seen that game. A convincing win over Wales and they’ll likely not fear anyone.

If Wales lose to Ireland tomorrow, they have Scotland at Murrayfield next week and potentially a lot of pain to look forward to.

A great afternoon of rugby. Only thing that's spoiled it for me has been the sporting and magnanimous reaction of Eddie Jones (in his post-match interview) and all the England fans on here.

Come on guys, at least show a bit of resentment and bitterness so we don't feel guilty about rubbing it in. (-:

That said, I think the Eddie Jones we saw in the interview is not the Eddie Jones the England players will be seeing tomorrow.

KennyP exactly why Jones is not the coach we need. That shouty you didn’t listen to me type of coach is probably far removed from most other modern coaches.

I am a Scotland fan and I so think that we'll Chuck it away stupidly in the next few games by being suckered out of our gameplan.
Ultimately we didn't let England play and we kept pressure on. Yes it wasn't expansive rugby but it was a hard game against one of the top teams.
When Scotland have done the best it's through scrappy loose forward play, first there apply pressure keep opposition on the back foot.
That's what we did.england couldn't settle and a few players are on edge, Billy V struggled, Farrell just hasn't got imagination (good player to a plan but...) Jonny May (as a winger I'm no fan) was the shining example of England today.
Bad day at the office need to have an ability to play what's in front of them not the blackboard.
France will be a challenge for all of us.

Be honest guys. We looked fantastic in 75% of the field, but our execution in the 22 and our place kicking let England off the hook.
On a good day Scotland should have won by 20 points given our dominance in most of the field.
That said I’ll take the win. Best one since 1990 at Murrayfield.

Good stuff, the master race fans and the English centric media are in denial. Out coached and outplayed in every department but Scotland were lucky? Dry yer eyes sweetcheeks. New day though so new excuses in 2 of the English papers this morning.

This seems right, also I think v England at Twickenham, kick the bloody points, every chance you get take the points build a lead.

And England, why the **** kick the ball away constantly with less than 10 to go and needing a try?
And if Fax hasn't played for ages and is having a shocker why keep him on when you bring on Ford.
And Vunipola, didn't notice him till he was taken off, that other lock was rubbish too, floors on the first ruck and then that's all he did all game, get him off put Lawes on at lock, not bloody six.
And Itoje STOP GIVING AWAY PENALTIES.
AND DAN ROBSON you are the weakest link, goodbye.

I could go on. This six nations is going to be see weird results with no crowd. Fort Twickenham and Millennium will suffer with no crowd to lift players or influence ref.

Funnily enough I wasn't really that worried going into the final 10 minutes. Normally I would be saying, 'We ARE going to lose this one' but in this case I was saying, 'We're probably going to lose this one' but even then I'm not sure if that was just me hedging my bets. I honestly wasn't very worried.

For all that Scotland weren't running up the scoreboard, England didn't look like they were going to do anything anywhere.

Maybe the stars are finally starting to align for Scotland. We should enjoy it while we can. If you look at the state of the clubs you can see where we are going to go from here.

Exactly, normally I would start getting worried as the phase count started to rise but in this case it was two phases and then kick it straight to Hogg.

The lack of ambition was startling, even Wales, playing shit like we are and with Halfpenny at fullback, would give it a lash.

Without wanting to take anything away from Scotland, because if Wales had just won the game I'd be an insufferable **** on here, but England were dreadful, utterly dreadful.

Well done again Scotland 😀

I agree with a_a, and also with Tjagain that in large part Scotland made England look woeful by matching them up front physically. Eddie Jones has taken no doubt very talented players and made them rather one dimensional. Why he didn’t bring Ford on earlier I don’t know. He had been saying games are won in the last 20 minutes, maybe he thought something would miraculously happen. Why he doesn’t have a player like Marcus Smith, who could try something different, on the bench I don’t know.

So the criticism of Scotland is we didn't put England away? Not that we lost a tight game or didn't turn up but that we only scored one of about 4 good chances? I'll take that.

Having given Townsend a lot of flak in the past I have to now give him a chunk of the credit for that. the players were prepared properly.

Oh - and this

Hahahaha. Bitter much? Get it right up ye!

TJ - yep. We looked good, a nice balance of control, common sense and malice. Except that we kicked to the corner when we should have taken three at the posts, missed a kick at the posts we really should have got, and kicked at the posts from halfway when we should have been 17-6 up and kicking for the corner.

Ultimately you can play as well as you like, but scoreboards win games.

However like I said, best win against England since 1990. And those problems? They’re nice problems to have.

Three home games and Paris. Maybe, just maybe.

Even the last pass before the try looked as though they’d butchered the opportunity.fortunately Van Dee Merwe was able to power over but it wasn’t made easy for him. I hope they don’t click against Wales though

I was surprised at the time that they didn’t check the grounding, I guess the ref had a good view. It was close to being held up though.

I’m not sure if I can stomach watching this afternoon. I have a very bad vibe.
