Just watching baabaas v wales, what an absolute **** if a ref Owens is. Clear tip tackle, play lands on head/neck and he doesnt even look at it!! Its player safety you idiot!
Andy Goode back on the field...

Lol.
Just read his Wiki entry and he is allegedly lighter than me. Now while I am 6"3" There is no danger he isn't a lot heavier than the quoted 15 stone 4lbs. I think you can add VAT to that claimed weight.
Found this pretty shocking, especially as it happened twice and the ref did nothing!

That's a bit ****tishness there.
Interestingly, post protectors are not mandatory in the laws though.
However, shithousery is probably covered by:
#9.11, Players must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others. or
#9.27 A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship.

So instead of fighting it Rugby Australia have basically said, 'Well, he was at least partly right.'
Cowards.
More post protector shithousery here,

I see Gatland is looking for a warm up game for the Lions in the UK. We could play them, put out a full strength team as well because we won't be troubling the squad. Just think; Russell may be a European cup winner by then, it would be good to see him try and outwit Kieran Hill.*
*Kieran Hill plays for Cross Keys at 10, the bottom club in the Welsh prem, but still going to get the call before Finn.
Wasps are total dog poo this season. Can’t say I’m looking forward to return fixture at the Ricoh next week which I have tickets for.
Bath are dog poo. Pretty good first half, ate my curry and suddenly they 17 points down.
Sarries look in course for a dicking tomorrow resting some of the big names.
Bath need a coach, Hooper is getting schooled every week.
Nice start today
Ch4 on now
Mindmap3 are you at sixways today?
Lovely conditions today. Loads of players around the grounds, the boys have already been given chocolates by will butler and Duncan weir. Should be a good day
This was only going to end one way...

Bashed him bro!
Shame he's been playing well recently, only a young lad, hope no one was hurt.
Thought this was very harsh, catcher misses and starts tofall backwards which inevitably brings his leg up, bloke runs into it with his face whilst being nowhere near to challenging for the ball.
That was straight out of the Lee Byrne book of dangerous catching.
Good to see it's finally getting dealt with properly. Now maybe youse'll stop doing it.
Yup, ref rules on outcome not intent. Kicked him in the face, red card.

Given he jumped and the french winger didnt he was always likely to get a boot around the head.
How can you jump without getting your feet up? He cant leave his feet on the floor.
Its not like he just kicked him. Had the frenchy gone for the ball he'd have been ok.
Not like this one.
When you jump you lift your knee, studs pointing down. However, for a while there, the Welsh seemed to be getting coached to lift the leg and show the studs, presumably to dissuade people from challenging for the ball.
It should be stopped. I think a couple more red cards and players will quickly figure out how to jump without showing their studs.

You mean the one where the donkey scottish prop got a red card?
Straight red to Byrne clearly kneed the scot in the head!
Bout 40s in, Williams leading with the head before that too

The one that always comes to mind is Byrne opening up Hugo Southwell's face with his studs. You saw him doing it all the time so it was going to happen eventually.
Was looking for Taine Basham's red card v Worcs but cant find it.
Can't find the video.
Again in that still the Scot shouldnt be going into contact with the bloke in the air, even if he is daft enough to be using his face to tackle with.

Byrne landed badly as I recall and most thought Hugo lucky not to get a card.
So, you reckon it should be allowed? Encouraged?
I think contact with a player in the air is illegal if you are not going for the ball and if you are on the floor the boots are going to be around you face. A proper kick out like the second clip is clearly illegal, having a boot in the air though is a consequence of jumping. Had Fall not run in and put his face there the boot wouldnt have hit it, had Fall jumped to get the ball his face wouldnt have hit the boot.
The Welsh players do seem to end up with their studs out more than others. Like I said, it's almost like they're coached to throw a leg out. Inevitably the commentators make say things like, 'You can't control where your leg ends up.' and yet most players can. It could be argued in your first clip that Dan Evans didn't raise his leg intentionally. You could also argue he did.
I think you have to go by results rather than intentions like you do with every other form of contact with the face.
Sorry but the Welsh are going to have to go back to jumping like the rest of us. Knee up, foot pointing down.
In fact, here's what Sam Warburton had to say
“I would be very, very disappointed if I was Dan Lydiate as captain,” said Warburton.
“You are coached to lift your leg up to defend yourself when you collect high balls.
“That’s just an unfortunate circumstance.
“Dan wasn’t looking to hit Teddy Thomas in the face and deliberately go for his chin.
“He looked away to protect the ball.
“I think that’s very harsh.”
The obvious solution is to stop coaching players to lift their leg to 'defend themselves'.
How does one jump without lifting a leg. If would be tacklers kept away from jumpers they wouldnt get a boot in the face. Contact with a player in the air is illegal, even if you use your face!
Lifting your leg and showing your studs is actually an extremely unnatural movement. If you jump like a normal person either your leg is straight and pointing down or your leg is bent and your foot is tucked under your bum.
Like Sam Warburton said, they have to coach players to do it. They should stop if they want to avoid red cards.

Not if like Dan Evans in the example above you are rotating backwards and would land on your back if your leg didnt raise a leg, thats why I thought it was harsh.
If you coach people to show their studs to defend themselves then it's going to become a more natural movement. Accidents are going to happen, like in Dan Evans' case (I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, even though there is no way of telling if sticking his leg out was instinctual or intentional).
They need to start coaching people to tuck their foot under their bum when they jump.

Unfortunately no, I went out on my bike instead as the sun was out.
Clear red. He looked right at him and planted his foot. Imo the ref was wrong to say accident but reckless.
I think it was deliberate

You going to hsve to explain to me slowly how you "plant your foot" when in the air!
