[Closed] Rosetta landing on this Comet, when's it on? And is it live?

[#6620905]

I know there's a programme on Discovery about the journey to this Comet, I've just recorded it.

But,

But having done some looking around, I seem unable to find a live feed and the date seems to be scheduled for Tuesday 1130pm ish with a signal back here on Earth at 830am following morning.

Scanning Discovery just seems to give reruns of tonight's programme..

Anyone know if there's a live (ish) feed on the tele??

Ta

Thanks for reminding me, almost forgot about this.

Any body watched one of these things before? I'm under no illusion that I'm going to see a real time live HD feed of the probe landing on the surface but is it just a lot of waiting around waiting for a confirmation message from the probe or is there other interesting stuff going on?

Maybe some dancing girls or monkey who can juggle?

Well I stayed up all night for the first moon landing but I may pass on this one. Good science though.

Probably leave the esa Rosetta page open in my classroom tomorrow. Includes the livestream but might offer a bit more background. Separation af 8:30 in the morning which is remarkably civilised! No idea how long the descent will take though...

Esa's Rosetta satellite will drop the probe on to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from an altitude of 20km.
If all goes to plan, the little robot, called Philae, will touch down about seven hours later, deploying screws and harpoons to secure its position.

That's a leisurely trip then.

oh and live stream here is broken, but might just be Deutsche Telekom incapable of handling live videos in the evening.

Just had a look at the live feed, and it appears a giant hand has taken over the control room.

Looks like separation has been successful, then.

I think its landed, they all just got a bit excited in the control room

Hours to go until we find out if all the decimal points are in the right place.

2hrs before next real update/landing - so thats approx 11am. The livestream reminds me of the Eurovision song contest coverage, the good news is there is no Terry Wogan

It is very exciting stuff. What an astounding achievement. I do hope they can cope with it all, though Hawaiian shirt man may end up like this

if it goes wrong...

I just want to make it clear that I didn't work on that bit ๐Ÿ˜‰

There was more TV crew here for the Cassini/Huygens landing event. Notably the BBC in a much bigger way.

think we DDoS'ed our own network.

not sure what you can actually see (delayed) live. hopefully photos of a comet.

certainly impressed by the osiris images, and the lander photos of the orbiter when still attached.
