Bloody hell! Just been chuckling at a family guy episode with "him" in it.

RIP 🙁

Edit: I remember being genuinely blown away when I saw Good Morning Vietnam and then being told that the vast majority of his role was ad libbed.

From the Internet,

Williams' publicist Mara Buxbaum told The Hollywood Reporter: "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."
His wife, Susan Schneider, said: "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

Oh Captain. My Captain.

His stand up routines left me helpless and in tears of laughter. Comedy genius and one of my heroes. So sad.

Thank you Robin 🙁 thank you to a great man - loved Mork as a child, and Good Will Hunting is one of my favourite films: you proved your genius/talents weren't only in comedy when you bagged that Oscar - sheer class. A sad loss.

that's sad.

One Hour Photo and Good Will Hunting were great but I have to say that I rewatched Good Morning Vietnam recently and it's awful esp the last scene when he confronts the Vietnamese kid.

Marc Maron did a good interview with Robin Williams: http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episodes/remembering_robin_williams

Such a shame. Easily the most talented in Take That. Angels is a classic.

I, like most, grew up with him. He's played a big part in my film & TV watching with outstanding standup improv, his talent had no boundaries.
I'm truly saddened, but will remember all those times when I couldn't stop laughing despite aching belly cramps.

Truly talented genius. 😐

When I was about 14 my mate got a copy of 'live at the met' and we watched it about 15 times, just blown away with his stand up ability! We had not come across anything like him before, and it opened our eyes about what comedy could be like, as a result we went hunting for other great comedians and it led us to Steve Martin, Bill Hicks, etc.

Great actor. Shame to lose him so tragically. Beyond "Mork and Mindy" the film that left an enduring impression on me:

"But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? - - Carpe - - hear it? - - Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary."

Really sad, it's often true that funny comic people have a dark side to them...... ,A true comedy genius, when he ad-libbed he could take it anywhere. Made some great comic and dramatic films in his (short) time. 🙁

Really Sad news can only repeat what everyone else has said, the most depressing news to hear as you wake up, somebody who brought so much joy and laughter was so clearly unhappy himself that he took his own life, so often the case. My version of Mrs Doubtfire with the kids was never a patch on him.

I'm genuinely upset by this.

RIP Robin, free from the birdcage at last.

A real loss.

He would have laughed about my wife being distraught when I told her, until 30 mins later when she realised it wasn't Robbie...........
