[#3328300]

There was no one tougher.

fought his whole career blind in one eye
Could barely see in the final rounds in Manila against Ali, yet had to be physically held back from going out to fight round 15, while Ali was begging his corner to throw the towel in.

RIP

Ah, man -read yesterday that he'd gone into the hospice, thought he didn't have long left.
Very sad.

Keep Smokin' Joe.

Extraordinary boxer from the greatest era of the heavyweight.

As Parky said this morning on Radio4, Smokin' Joe was the real deal.

Parkinson also said he never forgave Ali for the cruel taunts and when they got in the ring there was a real dislike which fuelled both performances.

He was a legend and never knew how to take a backward step.

I doubt Ali cares, but I will never 'forgive' him for the way he treat him dring the thriller in manila. using the term Uncle Tom in 60's america was a real insult, and a surefire way to turn black people against Frazier. Nasty.

I like to think Ali was just going OTT in his fight promotion. I'm sure deep down he had a lot of respect for Smokin' Joe.
