sad news. Did his bit in supplying kit for the British Expeditions in the big expedition years.
Sad news. A couple of years backI was lucky enough to spend a few hours talking to him at the PHD factory in Stalybridge both about PHD and how he first started Mountain Equipment - a classic story of a keen climber starting off by making kit for his mates and things snowballing from there. I guess he would have been in his late 70s then, softly spoken but properly bright and still passionate about producing top spec down kit. And also proud of manufacturing in the UK, even though by then he was mostly retired and living in Scotland. RIP.
