We're in the area over the next few days and just happen to have our bikes with us. Where is the best place to ride?

Whole thing is dry as it ever gets just now

Where are you staying ?

Loads of good trails/paths/routes, depending on which side of the legal line you want to be.

Lived there for best part of 10yrs (Brockenhurst)

Wiggle had a sportive there on the weekend of 16th/17th April, starting and finishing in Brockenhurst. I'm sure they have the route available on their website. Might do you for a full day out...no end of pubs dotted here and there. (I did the road event but the mtbers were out on the same day).

We just came back from the New Forest...we didn't take our bikes (2 adults + 2 kids) so hired them in Burley. We bought route pack from the hire shop and supplemented this with an OS map. Made our way around Linwood. Lovely day...scorching hot.

Obviously don't want to upset anyone but we don't mind pushing the boundaries, there's only 2 of us so I think we'll get away with it. Swoopy, foresty singletrack trails are my favourite but it'd just be good to ride somewhere different.

Although we're staying at Fordingbridge we can travel anywhere in the area.

Fordingbridge

Aha - the gnarrrrly northern forest. Good choice. Steady on the big hills, mind.
good riding from Godshill which is v near (esp if you're at sandy balls)
In this weather, following your nose would prob work as everything is pretty dry but bear in mind you have no sanctioned access to most paths - even the 6ft wide ones.

nice pubs all over (Fritham, Frogham are 2 and are actually joined by a 4mile sanctioned bike route 😯 )

Ed: there's also riding "outside" the NF, round Ashley way. Bit of northshoreish type stuff too I think

Brilliant, cheers folks! I've got my OS map and fingers-crossed for the rain to hold off. We're off in a couple of hours but I'll keep checking back for any updates. Thanks.

we've had our ride for this week, or I'd rashly offer to show you round (my mate'll be laughing if he reads this as I never know where I am)

can you read gpx files somehow ?? (may be able to lay my hands on a northerly route - we did a nice 20m on Monday evening, bone dry)

That sounds good scaredypants, I'm pretty sure we can read gpx files so if you could, that'd be great. And you're more than welcome to join us (as long as you don't show us up too much!) 😀
