What a top day.

I joined a feeder ride from Fife, we were around fifty riders by the time we crossed the Forth Road Bridge.

Despite the rain and fog somewhere over a couple of thousand cyclists met in the meadows for the ride to Holyrood.

What made the day for me was riding down the Royal Mile with a group of kids, some on tag-alongs, others on the next step up from balance bikes. As we freewheeled over the cobbles the kids sung Aaaaaaaaaaaaa. The cobbles induced a vibrato that varied according to velocity. An experience that good would have me hooked on cycling for life at that age.

It should be mandatory on the Paris Roubaix pave for Fabian Cancellaraaaaaaaaaaaa

Good turn-out. The Polis reckoned 2,500 and council nearer 4,000.

The lady that had the thumb operated counter deserves a special mention.

Yeah, my kids love that vibrato throat singing thing whenever we hit a bumpy road on the cargo bike.
I think there were around 3000 last year, and the queue before the start looked twice as long this year.

From Edinburgh City Police Twitter; escorting the last rider down the Royal Mile:

Graeme Obree entertaining the crowd with a pithy speech:

Some good speeches, but the only rep from the government, Paul Wheelhouse, was pretty dreadful, and took a bit of heckling for a rambling speech that didn't really engage the crowd and seemed to miss the simple reasons why so many people were there. Even the Conservative councillor got a better reception. At least he can be thankful he's not Nigel Farage...

A resonding "No" from everyone when an organiser subsequently asked whether the government were doing enough!
