Can I be the first to make the teaspoon joke, and also the first to say that you've only got one pair of eyes and if you are worried at all see a specialist. There is no genuine advice about matters of health that can be found on the internet.

As Tim Vine would say, "Conjunctivitis.com – that's a site for sore eyes."

sorry

I get it from work but not as bad as it used to be as we got really good monitors now. Spend 9 hours a day looking at a computer screen for work then come home to telly and STW. I find a long sleep can helper just an evening off telly. Riding without glasses and the computer work is the worst combo for me

Are you exposed to lots of flourescent lights at work? If they are 50Hz they can cause you eyestrain as you may be susceptible to the flicker - if you don't have much natural light you can try a normal desk light to give a constant light source.

I take it you use non-glossy LCD screens? Glossy can cause eyestrain very easily - I can't look at my mates Mac screen, which also seems to flicker.

Also don't sit too close to your monitor.

I do eye exercises, like the Bates method, but more active, and I find this helps. It feels like you are stretching muscles - up and down movements at the left and right extremes seems to work best for me, plus some near/distance stuff.

See this book for Bates:

Opticians will object - but that is because, if it works for you, then you are not going to be buying any glasses from them.

yes, but we are talking about eye strain now, and for me the exercises help now, and might do for the OP.

The 'palming' bit in the Bates method is pretty good as well at keeping your eyes feeling fresh - speaking as a programmer who has worked a lot of long shifts and had to fight to keep my eyesight in reasonable shape.

if you're reading / looking at a screen, try a pair of +1 reading glasses.

i buy mine for about £6, and they stop the eyepain/headaches.

Do not pass go...docs, opticians, you only have 1 pair of eyes and I might feel guilty bullying you if you go blind.
