Fell in a river the other day and the camera on my waterproof phone has ceased to function. Tried drying it out in the airing cupboard and done a full software reinstall to no avail.
Anyone got any sensible tips for repair or recommend a decent place to get it fixed? Much as I hate to, it may be more economic to pay the £56 I have left on my contract and get a new handset.
Thanks
Rich

Worth looking into, perhaps.
How old, my Sony phone has a 2 year warranty. If it failed at being waterproof you may have some luck getting it fixed for free. They will repair for a charge as well.
Thanks for the information - didn't realise that waterproof meant 'not really waterproof at all'. That's kind of the worst of all worlds as I have been really careful with previous phones, buying otterboxes for them. I'm maybe too trusting.
Only 16 months old so it may still have some warranty cover. Will look into it.
I have also learnt that I really do not like dealing with Virgin Media.
They wouldn't honour my M4 warranty after 6 months so don't hold your breath. I sold it spares or repair in the end. Paypal refunded me half the money after Sony completely washed their hands of it and the retailer wouldn't reply to emails. Came away with a small loss and no desire to ever own a Sony again.
I reckon you'll get a few quid on ebay to cover some of buying out your existing contract, or bin contracts altogether and just buy and phone and go PAYG when your current contract runs out. Save yourself quite a bit.
Right, well good news.
After a protracted phone call to Virgin they have agreed to repair my phone for free.
Agree with you nickjb - won't be buying a Sony again. Beyond the fact that the camera's packed up I find the phone to be the most irritating I've ever owned.
Thanks STW mind - once again you've sorted me out.
I found Sonys repair service to be excellent...although I have to admit I'd rather have a reliable phone!
They fixed a damaged button after I dropped the phone (only about 30cm)
It then got water damage taking a picture under water, part of the screen stopped working and the headphone port broke. I failed to fix it myself so sent it back with a non genuine rear glass cover, they repaired and reused the same fake cover!
Since then I've had a few issues, mag port broke and detached, waterproof covers wore out. After repairing the mag port the rear cover won't stick properly, it's cracked, the GPS accuracy is shocking and the mag port broke again, and now camera does not focus!
It's had a good innings at over two years old, it's now going to be retired unfortunately.
(Sony Z3 Compact)
It's definitely only splash/rain proof.
I got through 3 z3 compacts taking under water photos at centre parks 🙂
they replaced every one under warrenty.
I now have a xz. ive bent it. its my fault and cost me 97 quid for a new one through their service centre.
Some Sony fans then... Have either of you worked how to stop the phone filling up its internal memory with unwanted updates? Bloody thing doesn't seem to want to let me save big stuff to the sd card.
Took me a while to work out how to get it to save music etc to am SD card, at some point I also discovered to was reporting a few gigs of cached data that I couldn't find, so did a factory reset and that sorted out storage issues for several months.
