Arranging a weekend for me & the Mrs in London without the kids, got War Horse sorted but any recommendations for less obvious/off-the-beaten-track places to visit? I'd happily spend all weekend in the science museum but I'd end up single again..
Take thirty minutes to walk around Whitehall on Sunday morning, look at Downing Street, House of Commons and walk up to the road to see nelson on his column!
The maltby St beer/food walk, either start at the kernel brewery and work your way back or start at London Bridge. And don't miss the historic St John Bakery donuts. It's where food/beer people go to avoid the tourists at borough market.
This is assuming you like beer/food/wine/cheese/beer/donuts
Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural Historu Museum was a super way to spend an hour last week.
What Mr Smith said but give yourself the illusion of a cultural outng by ending up at Tate Modern. (Obligatory OXO Tower joke)
Also - will the sky garden at the hideous walkie-talkie building be open by then?
Thanks for the ideas, really appreciated, who doesn't like beer/food/wine etc!
Some places you might want to wander to:

And go up The Monument as well - only £3!
Go to London Bridge and walk through Hays Galleria, past hms Belfast, east along the Thames to Tower Bridge and through the cobbled streets of Shad Thames.
if its a nice day this place is a little gem in the middle of all the bustle
or a riverboat ride or a walk along the embankment to tower bridge and St Katherines Docks
South bank walk / boris bike ride starting at the Isambard K Brunel museum just north of Canada Water tube. Walk / cycle west, passing HMS Belfast (well worth a poke about) City Hall, the Shard (bonkers engineering), Borough Market (great foodie stuff), The Golden Hinde, the Globe theatre, the London Eye and over Westminster Bridge for a lap of Parliament Square.
Take some Boris Bikes out - they are a real hoot and very cheap as well (£2 per 24 hours if you limit yourself to 30 minute rides).
If the weather's clear, it's really worth going up The Shard. Costs about the same as the London Eye, but the Eye only gives you 30 minutes, and only a few at the top; when I went up The Shard last year, it said on the ticket I had thirty minutes, but nobody was checking, and people were coming and going all the time, I was up there for more than an hour. Good food in Borough Market, there's a good pub there as well, the Market Porter in Stoney Street.
