I'm looking for a small fold-up solar panel to throw on the dashboard of the van whilst camping for the weekend.ย It's to charge up phones, MP3 player, iPads etc.
Any suggestions?
Solar panels don't generate that much power, so you either need a large one or you need a small one for a long period of time.
You're probably better off getting a large USB battery.
I've got a 21w Anker one which seems to do OK in real sunlight. Never tried it on the dash. Tends to be outside and lay it on the grass and use something to angle it at the sun with phone in the shade underneath. Seems to work ok and tops up the battery on extended trips. I always make sure phone Bluetooth and Wifi etc are off so usage is minimal for checking in and maybe checking weather etc depending on coverage.
What Ewan says. Unless touring in back of beyond a large powerbank is less hassle and works winter and summer. If it's for a van size and weight don't matter.
For example
Thanks
Are those solar power banks any good?
Use the van battery ?
