Can anyone recommend a quiet pub that serves decent basic food in central Edinburgh (near Haymarket if possible)? Good ales would be great. It would be mid week.
Cheers
Take cash in all coin denominations in case they operate an exact price system and don't take cards. ๐
Not especially near Haymarket but the Stockbridge Tap in Stockbridge ticks all your boxes.
Proper quietish, old-skool local ambience, Huge selection of well-kept ales and above average, no-nonsense scran.
Pubs in the immediacy of Haymarket are pish-poor to the best of my considerable boozing knowledge.
Caley sample room is v good - about half a mile walk out of the city centre along Dalry Rd to Anglepark terrace. Serious ale selection and food is meant to be more than decent. Not quiet per se but location and quality means there won't be any banging music or anything like that.
Don't think you'd do much better in a 1/2 mile radius of Haymarket, although there's probably 1 or 2 closer that I can't think of right now.
Teuchters on William street?
Thomson's Bar in Morrison Street (200 yards?)do good beer and anbience but don't know about food.
Thanks for all of the replies. Will check out the Stockbridge Tap and Caley sample room. I've not been in Thomson's before but have walked past it. Will check if they do food.
A few weeks ago we went into the The Conan Doyle, a great little pub, good atmosphere, great food and ale.
Not sure how close this is to you.
