Car horns are incredibly hard to choose online...anyone care to recommend one?!
The stock horn on my van was so quiet it couldn't be heard inside the cab at motorway speeds, replaced with a twin tone Halfords job which is louder but still not loud enough to actually draw attention when needed (cars not checking blind spots etc and trying to merge behind me into my horse trailer, usually).
My old Citroen ZX had a nice sounding but very loud twin tone horn, but its not clear on ebay which are copies etc.
I already have a dedicated feed and plenty of space under the bonnet, so anything that is 12v will do the job...I'd like maximum shock factor as it takes a fair bit of effort to stop 6 tons and a good couple of minutes to get back up to speed again!
P.S although great, train horns are out. Might end up with a horses foot through the wall of the trailer 🙂
Twin tone nautilus.. Has a distinct sound..
Get to scrap yard and find an old ZX,
Austin Rover ones were pretty loud too, ie old. Montegos.
Fiamm triple tones!
Go on, you know you want to. 😀
The one they had in the dukes of hazzard

Audi A3 seems to have quite a distinct and decent tone to it.
I fitted a two tone horn to my old Fiesta that I got from a motor factors somewhere. It was about a tenner and in a cheap bubble wrap packet, two horns and a small compressor. I had to wire a relay in and fit the horns to a small alu bracket, but it was bloody loud and always got people's attention.
It was quite a high tone, which helped.
This sort of thing:

Round our way at work - most of the office sandwich vans have the Dukes of Hazzard horns to get people's attention. So if you wanna be chased around business parks by middle management types after a ham & cheese sandwich, go right ahead!
😀
Thanks guys, no Dukes of Hazard!
The only ZX horn I can find that looks like it might be genuine, i.e. not a generic fits anything horn, is £70 😯
So think I'm just going to plump for a 135db twin air horn for £16...
The ones the entourage of the Tour de Yorkshire were the best.
The triple tones sound like an indian taxi.
Well reminds me of one anyway

When TdF came thru near Elland, the police BMW X5 was playing the theme from Allo' Allo' but it sounded like it was played thru the horn
Go on, get one
Are there any legalities to look out for on these? I.e. max noise level?

I think I've actually got a nautilus in my garage somewhere (unused) if the op is interested.
Jimjam, I'll be in touch if my purchase is disappointing!
yep, nautilus. got one on my motorbike (they're very popular with bikers).
comes in handy, usually on roundabouts.
I always used to fit a pair of Fiamm "snail" diaphragm horns on my motorbikes and they saved my life on at least one occasion, I'm sure. It's the discordant note you get from two dissimilar horns, which matters as much as the volume.

No problem, this thread just reminded me to dig it out and stick it on ebay.
