I’ve been having a play with my dSLR tonight, trying to get some decent shots of the (just past) full moon.

Ok but not great. So that got me thinking, how much would a reasonable, but budget, reflector telescope with equatorial mount set me back?
I saw this on T’internet - any good?

Do you want to take pictures of the moon using the telescope and your dslr?

If so you may need a tracking mount with lunar speed and other accessories to mount the camera.

Things may have moved on since I was into this stuff but Celestron and Skywatcher brands used to be the top budget brands and you couldn’t really go wrong with either option at any given price point.

I bought a cheap ~£50 500mm Mirror lens from eBay for my ASP-C camera. Turns it into a circa 750mm and can get some pretty good photo's of the moon.

Certainly easier than lugging about a telescope. Would be useless for galaxy photos mind but for that when I looked into it you had to spend pretty serious cash

go big or go home 🙂

note the pirate eye patch, essential addition for visual work.

But seriously, for you, a nice reflector on an EQ like that will be a great start point. Might not be the most stable mount, but moon shots will be short exposure so not too big an issue.
