If you do the cashback thing , this is very cheap. A mate pays just £1.69 a month or something (well he actually pays £25 but then every 6 months he gets a nice big cheque)
do you know anyone who works for the bbc, or national rail, or one of the other big corporations who have the 'o2 open' deal?
my brother works for the bbc, and he got me 30% off my iphone contract :o)

SIM only is the way to go if you want to go to ebay or similar for a handset, O2 Simplicity is a reasonlable deal, 300 mins, 600 texts on a 30 day rolling contract.
