Something that I can wear on the bike when it is absolutely tipping it down yet also capable of keeping me dry in the hills in winter.

As this is something I have been threatening to buy for years, budget is not a factor that needs to be considered.

What sort of jacket do you want? All the stuff I use falls firmly into the lightweight category so afraid I'm a bit biased. If you're after something like this then IMO the best I've ever used ( and still do ) is the OMM Kamleika Smock. Light (250g), packs small, looks great, has thumbloops and doesn't rustle. A steal at 90 quid.

RAB do a very lightweight one so you won't get too hot - not sure if it's long enough to be any good for biking though - you'll still have a wet arse I expect:

Maybe have a look through their other jackets too.

Not really a fan of lighweight outdoor kit. I destroy it in 2 seconds flat.

won't you get too hot in anything else? How are you destroying them!

I have never had a problem with overheating in any jacket. Destroy lightweight kit by simply wearing it out. I spend a lot of time in the hills and this accelerates wear.

What are you doing in the hills? Rolling around?

How about a paramo quito? I bought one recently and I can't see why it wouldn' do what you're asking.

Can't do Paramo unfortunately. You go like greased shit off a teflon shovel if you fall on a snowy slope with that stuff.

So this is a sometimes cycling, sometimes "falling off snowy slopes" specific jacket then ?

So you're looking for a jacket that repels water whilst at the same time adheres to water.

No. i'm looking for one that doesnt melt snow, but repels water. Am thinking Mountain Hardwear Meridian.

It's looking good for Effin's cylinder jacket I reckon.
