Got smartphone? If so Plenty of good apps for well under budget and means one less gadget to lump around.

Garmin Nuvi 205 works well for me - £80ish

Orange San Francisco, 80 quid.
CoPilot for Android, 20 quid.

Ah, Europe's a bit dearer.

TBH, last time I was in the market for a satnav, TomTom were the best by a country mile. Snappy, intuitive to use, brilliant mapping and clear. Might've changed now mind, but a couple of years back there was simply nothing to touch it.

My father in law picked up the cheapest one in Halfords, 60 quid or something for when he was over. I thought it'd be rubbish but it's actually pretty good - we are using it now in Germany.

Yep. Currently using "NavFree" - not perfect but usable UK mapping and directions for nowt!
