MSE! Better than AVG and Avast probably.

Finally got around to installing some AV on this laptop after owning it for a year. Should be interesting to see how many things it picks up on - scan under way now...

AVG installed 12783 items found. Many thanks looks like its never had any security on from day one.

Besides the AV advice, I wouldn't use a loan laptop for internet shopping or banking.

Check this website for security apps reviews: http://www.anti-malware-test.com/

Notwithstanding, I use MSE, AVG, AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and finally Spyware Blaster. All free.

There's more than one AV in there - only using one at a time is very important, or you'll pole-axe OS performance.

I'll add my usual evangelizing - the ultimate answer is to get rid of windows and use a decent OS , Mac or linux.

depends on the OS. If it's windows 7 use the onboard microsoft security.
