i am trying to organise a camping weekend for myself and a few friends in the Forest of Dean.

ideally i want a campsite with showers/toilets etc and not too far from a local pub/village. If there was local activities close by like canoeing/biking/horse riding etc it would be a bonus.

Has anyone any thoughts on campsites with the above criteria?

Whitemead Park in Parkend is a CSMA site but they are not fussy, especially with tents. Fountain pub is a good 2 minutes away as is the Woodman which is run by a grumpy so and so. You would be on a spur of the family cycle track and a leisurely 10 minutes from the main cycle centre. I ride past there daily and there is always space. Search via the CSMA website

Like Matt says, Parkend is right in the middle of the FoD and also has the Fountain Inn which is MTBer friendly (and the base for the local Cycling Club). Site also has a good leisure centre (pool, saunas, cafe, bar, restaurant).

Another nice site is Cherry Orchard near Newland. 5 minutes walk to village pub, lovely spot but much more basic.

Plenty of activities in area including canoeing and horse riding.

We stayed in Bracelands last year and wouldn't go back tbh, they seem to be overfond of rules and permits. Prefer a smaller site.

Stayed at Bracelands several times.
No problems here. Good site IMHO, if a little noisy when busy.
I'd certainly go again.
