Old car on its way that will need our piddly garage PDQ .
Its currently full of our family bikes and add up to an hefty sum in value, so cheap tin sheds are not ideal.
Back garden is massive, but no rear access. Side access no issues but not big enough for anything much wider than a wheelbarrow. Plus i hate my back garden so we are really happy to loose part of it.
Long term, ie in a couple years we might have a really nice building installed but basic price has come in at £20k and dont have that currently. Spent it on the car 🤣
So 12 bikes currently hanging in the garage with stuff under, over, in cupboards, in a ceiling mezzanine type floor storage etc. garage will just fit car in which is 4m x 1.65m.
i have looked at Dunster House garage which a mate has and its brilliant size and build, 3m x 5.5m and has a high roof. Its on offer at £4500. Not terrible but is there something i am not thinking about that could work thats cheaper and as good?
I then have been looking posh tin sheds but the cost goes nuts on the ones with good height, say 2m plus. Wickes do a big cheap shed but its a bit thin and flimsy
Flatpack containers, one came up that was two joined together but the cost goes nuts trying to get the size big cos its not tall so it needs to be like double the size of my current garage, and then i am back to my DH garage again. One plus with containers is i can sit on a gravel base on sleepers so it will save the concrete base construction costs.
I am thinking in theory we might end up selling this used in a year or two, but aware that could end up a few more years/never…
So any thoughts or options i am not thinking about? Any advice from you wise lot will be appreciated mucho

You'll still need to sort a base out though
You can buy them used. Plenty on Facebook marketplace. Condition is a bit hit and miss and you usually need to dismantle them, although some are ready to go.
Yeah if you can transport it, used looks an amazing option tbh, facebook marketplace is full of used sheds that are only a few years old. Though if it was built badly it might not be in good shape, even stuff like loose bolts etc can mean they shift around a lot with weather, loads etc and end up pretty knackered. Wood is much more repairable than thin metal
The steel ones need some effort to build well, and are naturally noisy and boomy, I have a little one for extra storage and tbh I wouldn't really want to work in it. Not so easy to hang stuff on the walls, etc etc. I put shed roof felt over mine, not for waterproofing, just to stop it ringing like a bell in the rain. Sealed up the joints because otherwise wind can blow rain through.
Obviously almost anything not designed for security, is effectively worthless for security. But proper secure bike sheds are always expensive. You can secure stuff inside a shed and stop it getting nicked but that's not much consolation when the door gets destroyed! This is another downside of the thin metal ones, my neighbour got hers broken into and it almost wrote off the shed, when they pried the door open it mangled the door, the wall, the braces, everything and you can't really get parts. I was able to dismantle the end wall, hammer it flat-ish and put it back together but it was never as good.
On the temporary bit, why get rid of it? If you build a better bike shed in the future just keep this one too if you have the space. It can be a workshop space, garden furniture store, garden tools, etc. All things to keep stuff out of the garage and bike sheds. You cannot have too may sheds.
What's the "old car"? Can't it just sit on your drive ? (Assuming you have a drive, of course...)

Heathen!
(What is it, please share!?)
Second the used market - dismantling and removing this buildings is where the cost is so if you can rent a big van or truck and corrall some mates, theres good opportunities to pickup something really decent for very little money.
Bikes belong in the garage, not cars. Wrong forum OP. 🙃

temp it goes on the drive, I am going to convert part of the front lawn and then it can be blocked in most of the time and get a car cover when it shows up/if I have not sorted the mess of Tetris out by then. In the meantime I will start doing a bit of landscaping in the back garden ready for the base/shed.
Just found an amazing Dunster House one on FBMP, brand new almost. I agree about the security. A proper hd garage is needed. Dunster House garages are like 45mm thick walls.
Car is old and Italian so it needs to go in the garage ASAP. Its never seen rain before so a UK winter might be a shock for it
I was looking for a Lancia Beta project but couldnt find anything cheap enough that wasnt seriously crunchy and then this came up in SA
