I started reading one that was in a shared pile of books at some holiday let / B&B I was in once and nearly gave up after the first couple of pages.

I read the first one a while back (after it had been on the telly) and I'm embarrassed to say that it became it bit of source of fun - in a Dan Brown Stylee, in our house...the "He said, she said" comment up there was one...They are bad, and not in a good way

"These could be fractions."

The show is ridiculous. Awful jokes. Bad acting. Some good action.

I'm still enjoying it.

Yeah, this penultimate season 2 episode today was pretty boring, nothing really happened, bar the flashback, which again just gets in the way of the actual story meant to be to be told, as there was no time or actual showing of them.

Always amazes me when a TV show with a decent premise or first season success seems to go to pot when more money is put in, this one is actually painful to watch now with the poor acting, script and flow.

Haven't watched the latest yet, but so far it isn't living up to the Graun's 4* review.

Forbes are taking a pretty critical stance on it:

Lucy Mangan’s idea of what’s good is regularly at odds with mine!

The whole show is ridiculous but fun. I mean if they know the time and location of a huge terrorist arms deal that aims to cause the loss of thousands of lives, rather than turn up to deal with it yourself, why would you not just call the relevant national security services! Obviously that wouldn’t make great tv..

as an aside, I think I’m in love with Dixon..

That link is from the previous episode to this week, and this weeks is even worse, that episode had so many horrific action scenes and lines from the characters, it does pick up the annoying bits i found, with the police guy being chased through New York without any traffic and ending up in a dead end, the way he left the kid in the car whilst he went and got cover behind the car, so she's left right in the line of fire, with a couple of mm of material between her and the endless ammunition the baddies had, the way he then does a suicide walk to them, it's as if the writers and director haven't a clue how action scenes work.

We're talking Samurai Cop levels of bad dialogue and bad action scenes here, how the hell it's done this i haven't a clue, even sadder, it'll be a success because folk like me keep watching hoping it will make sense!

Yeah for someone who is supposed a numbers genius it took her ages, I guessed straight away.

Season 1 is definitely better.  Season 2 is watchable - but not as good.

I'm watching it, and I'm enjoying it, but there's some shocking acting going on, and in S2 I think he's... too big?

I mean I've read loads of the books, and he's a big guy, blah blah, but I never thought of him as a pumped body builder. And he spends too much time in S2 looking like things are getting to him. I think he was a better Reacher in S1.

Season one is definitely better and closer to the Reacher of the books, which are much better than the series.

Season two seems to have gone dumb big guy likes killing people, but I'll still be looking forward to season 3.

Dixon doesn't do it for me, more of a Roscoe guy 😉

BTW...The Reacher playlist on Spotify is good 😎

If you’ve not watched the final episode don’t. Absolutely under no circumstances watch it.

The cliches come fast and they jump the shark too.

Just dreadful a shame as the first season was very good.

We're holding off watching 'the finale' as we're going to go back and watch S2 from the beginning a couple at a time over a few days.

But I totally agree S1 is far superior

Not seen it yet, but from the massive road signs they've provided throughout about how it ends i fully expect the villain to be thrown from a helicopter, the guy who's been hiding the entire series to turn up and do good, so that Reacher shows why he always trusted him and so on.

Cliches wise, i again expect Bond levels of keeping good guys alive and karate chop style fighting, like a serious Austin Powers 🤣

I'm enjoying it. Not seen the last episode yet.

It's like no one here has read the book. Highbrow intelligent plot stuff it is not, but it is good fun 😎

Season 1 is definitely better. Season 2 is watchable – but not as good.

Bit like bands albums.

1st - great, draws on all their life experiences, ideas, it's new and fresh.
2nd - more of the same, there was a bit of money for better production, some songs about success
3rd - unless you go full late Beatles / Artic Monkeys / Hawkwind / Queen and make a high concept album, you're basically now just trying to re-hash the songs you wrote as teenager, only you're now in your 30's, you kids are embarrassed by your music and your wife's questioning which ex those love songs are about.

S1 probably went through a decade of re-writes on someone's desk waiting to get commissioned. S2 was probably done by committee in a few months.

I didn't have the tolerance to get through even the first book but I enjoyed season 1 of the TV. Season 2 is dreadful though, I've watched about 4 and can't be arsed watching to see if it gets any better. From the rest of this thread I gather it doesn't!

It certainly doesn't ask much of the viewer, does it?! I am yet to fully catch up but I don't doubt how it is going to play out. Not big on nuance, this series.

The cliches come fast and they jump the shark too.

The whole thing is just a bunch of cliches and shark jumps stitched together, probably by an AI. But it's entertaining popcorn cliches. You might be taking it too seriously.

I think the flashbacks have broken things up a bit too much

Its all a bit silly, but season 1 wasnt exactly The Wire, Im still enjoying S2, we binged it all over this week and will be watching the finale with a few beers later!

It's big dumb forgettable TV fun to eat your dinner to isn't it?

Having watched both series to date I can't see me rushing out to buy any of the books.

No, I’ve been willing to give the simple entertainment pass for the season. Trust me it gets really bad.

I was quite enjoying even season 2 till you lot started , ,  , ,  😂

The wife did say the other night that she wasn't really enjoying it as much as the first series as it has got a bit "killy".

I'm still enjoying season 2 - it's well executed within its genre.

But I prefer the drifter storyline rather than this A-team type set-up.

When I first heard they were using this book for the second series I knew it would be nowhere near as good as the first. The books where he’s by himself are the best ones. I can never remember the names but I’d like to see.

The one with the serial killer and the baths.

The one with Hook Hobie. A proper over the top villain.

The one with the ‘roided up giant in a house by the sea who, gasps, actually hurts Reacher.

The one where he becomes a farmhand for a bit.

The one where he gets kidnapped, hangs out with some right wing nut jobs and gets stuck in a tunnel.

Finally, the one where he gets trapped in the snow and (takes a breath) fights a midget Mexican drug Lord in some sort of silo that’s, bear with me here, somehow fortuitously designed to give the aforementioned mini Mexican drug lord the upper hand in a fight.

Anybody expecting highbrow TV or literature needs to look elsewhere. This is pure escapism with a super powered human version of the littlest hobo.

it was pretty comedic 🙂 though you know it's going to be pretty dumb. besides I'm biased as I did the motion capture of Robert Patrick for the Terminator 2 ride @ Orlando.

Watched the last episode earlier today. Geez, the whole season was bad. Perfect for when on the turbo. If you miss a bit on a tough interval you can easily fill in the gaps.

Just finished S2, highlight was still the Sarah Conner comment from earlier. Not a high standard.

Big guy hits bad guy..whats not to like.
I enjoyed most of it and for me less wondering about looking confused not doing much like the first series.
I will say Alan Richson looked ill on some of the close ups, like you get with vastly overweight ppl.
And at least i made it through the second series, didn't do that with shooter.

61 hours, a classic of literature.  I believe the silo you mention was designed as a fallout shelter for children to live in, hence the tiny tunnels (best of you don't consider the logic around that too much) .

Just came on to post that Forbes steaming garbage link.....only 9 hours late.

Watching The Lift on Netflix while on the trainer earlier, and that's some steamy tosh as well

Yep, another by-the-numbers film, one of those that Netflix can churn out almost monthly.

Various bits of media stuff hinting that they've sorted the book for S3 but very little in the way of further details as yet, the usual "celebrity news" shite about "how Reacher can branch out into..." and "how Reacher can bring back Neagley for S3"

Finally watched it, wow, they did their hardest to make it a proper cliche strewn finale, it's just the stuff you'd expect them to excel on that fails badly, like the military stuff, the weapons, etc, it's just poor all over.
