Just a thought checking the names I know this appears like it might be generally true - though I'm sure there will be exceptions. And does it mean socialist get better trails?

Glaswegian living in York = champagne socialist here

You?

Nope. Was a labour supporter, but I was completely appalled by the fact that the likes of Jack Straw were more authoritarian and reactionary than Howard. And by sofa government, Iraq, etc.

What's the connection between Labour and Socialist? You seem to have used the two words interchangeably.

And if you study the map on Drac's site you'll see that it's more of a rural/urban split than a north/south one.

slightly irritating though..

there should really be a lot more yellow in the sparsely populated rural areas.. only hordes of blue townies have flocked to these areas to swing the majorities.. thus leaving the once fairly equally divided cities looking very red indeed with a lot more very unlikely blue everywhere..

it's a CONspiracy I tell thee..

Are the Tories *all* southerners

William Hague was born in Rotherham.

EDIT: not sure why I bothered posting here, isn't this just a troll?

You?

I'm wondering at the lack of socio-political awareness among some members of the electorate....

At least you all like to think you are anyway...an oasis of poshness in a hinterland of ignorant proletarianism. The "Bath" of the north. How funny.

That map just demonstrates how badly we need an English parliament.

Was that at the time of the 'Peoples Republic of Sheffield"? Led by that famously liberal, libertarian and socialist David Blunkett?

The split tends to be more urban / rural than north / south Labour had a bigger share of the vote in London than the Tories did.

Kentishman, and the only time my vote could go to Labour is if BNP looks likely to win seat with Lab close 2nd. I'm sure you can work out the rest.

It shows the Scots don't want their own given the lack of SNP.

Liberal, socialist and libertarian are three mutually contradictory terms. You can't be two at once, let alone three.

Singlespeed_Shep - you are correct I had the choice of either a Tory or a LibDem who looked like one. Bring back John Grogan.

Wasn't the case last week though 😉 there was another red splodge and a yellow one.

Slight hijack but how you finding York? You found a bar called Pivo yet? York's finest beer.

Forget a map of the whole country based upon differing political allegiance... mapping political inclinations in one person can be difficult enough.

"Bath" of the north

😯 Sorry you have a bath in the north? I find that very surprising, is it just the one?

Now where did I put my shandy?

Very blue and yellow round here - can't imagine anyone voting Labour after all they're in red as is a certain nearby football team.

Or that we know that a vote in the general election is different to one in the "election" for our tribal leader. That or there is a real collective memory to the good old days of Snatcher.

Singlespeed_Shep - Been in York, or more precisely just outside one of the villages just outside York, for about 8 years now, and I lived over Wetherby way before that, but my going out for a beer in York time is on hold at present. A small boy in our lives means that drinking now means wine at home for my wife and I - if I can go out it's normally running or on the bike.
On the other hand, York is a brilliant town to bring up a family, and though somewhat flat, fairly bike friendly. The pubs as I remember were pretty good too, but it's been a long time.
