I've just read over my new certificate of motor insurance after changing my car. Under the "Persons or classes of persons entitled to drive" section it lists three bullet points:
(Insurance is a comprehensive policy provided by Tesco)
•The Policyholder (phew)
Obviously
•The Policyholder may also drive with the owner's permission....usual blurb about it only being limited to third party cover only.
Nothing new there
•Any person named below who is driving on the Policyholder's order or with the Policyholder's permission:
(mrs deadly's name is here).
All subject to: "provided that the person driving holds a license to drive such motor car or has held and is not disqualified for holding or obtaining such license"
My question concerns the third point. In the past, if heading off with the car for a week with friend(s), I've always rung the insurance company to get the friend(s) covered for the duration. They've always taken the £15 "administration" fee for this but never increased the premium.
Does the third point above mean that I don't actually need to be doing this all the time?
tesco's insurance is underwrtitten by UK insurance i think.
You are usually o.k within the u.k for other folks to drive
but not if you go on the continent within E.U.
Personally i would ring to check as you know what insurance companies are like,.
The third point says "named below". If they are not named on the policy, they are not covered on your policy.
So my reading is you do need to ring Tesco to add drivers as and when you do, to get them naed on the policy.
Be aware that Tesco a few months ago, changed over from being underwritten by RBS to Liverpool Victoria, and so its just their own new wording on the doc's thats phased you a bit.
Oops...yes, seems I misread the policy. I thought it had said:
Any person named below who is driving on the Policyholder's order or any person driving with the Policyholder's permission:
D'oh 😳
Ok, I will continue as before...
