The bit that is attached to the bonnet, the little metal u shaped bar, should it be the same colour as the car?
I always thought they were a gold or silver galvanised colour as they were fitted after the car gets painted
The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking at buying a used car and the one I saw today was painted which was making me think maybe its an accident repair
Pretty sure the one on my Allegro Estate is beige, like the rest of the car.
My Honda was painted the same as the car. That was bought new.
Re accident damage repair.I would be more inclined to check the area around the slam panel, bulk head and shut lines along with colour differences between panels rather than the bonnet catch.
Try and find the same model & age of vehicle and see what the bonnet catch is like on that one.
I think your assumption of "added after painting" is a bit of an unfounded one. My Celica ('91) is white like the car. My 306 is galvanised. Other halfs megane is rusty, presumably was galvanised. BMW ones Ive seen are black.
Check for actual panel damage for accident repairs, look around the engine rails for crush damage in the crumple zones, uneven panel gaps (though some cars are like that from the factory), paint texture etc.
