I used to live just down the road from where parts of that were filmed... and it's almost as bleak as it appears!

Cracking film though...

This is England is an excellent film and very touching.

What was the name of the British film, contemporary to This is England, that was about a soldier returning from the front line to avenge the murder of his mentally disabled brother. His brother appears throughout the film in conversation with the soldier who is a completely unassuming bad ass and mullers the gang responsible for torturing and murdering his brother.

All Shane Meadows films are good. 24/7 is a classic

seen it a few times now. Great film. Stephen Graham could be another Gary Oldman.

Meadows films are very good indeed. Have a few of them on DVD, although Ive yet to watch Somerstown.

I'm not a fan, not sure if it's the film itself or just this style of film
never been a fan of the Brit film genre, always remind of Confessions of a Window Cleaner

Can't see the connection between "This is England", and some cheeky chappy getting his end away while cleaning the widows of bored housewives with all sorts of hilarious consequences 😆

I know what you mean. I'm always getting confused with Trainspotting and On the Buses. Its the whole transport-related-tiles thing i think 😀

Oh arse!! Life is Sweet is on now. Must.... not ... start ... watching .... it

Just seen it.

Brought back a real sense of the time, i was 15/16 in '83 and i remember well the feeling of barely suppressed anger floating around.
Was struck by the idea that not all of the skinhead culture was racist, i'd forgotten how it grew out of the rudeboy sound.

all my mates said it was just depressing and boring and they couldn'tget into it. I just thought it was fantastic! pretty grim in bits, bt that's the nature of a ml film, nowt wrong with a bit of truth, as opposed to a lot of the crap we are supposed to watch. Ken loach also fantastic.

Amen to that. There's always plenty of humour in both Ken Loach and Mike liegh films (maybe not Naked?). Life is Sweet is hilarious

The rant in Naked about barcodes/the number of the beast etc is one of the most powerful scenes ever filmed

yes! brilliant bit, bonkers but interesting, david thewliss is amazing in that bit and quite disconcering. so much good stuff in his films, that people can be fragile and a bit mixed up, and there is nothing wrong with that! sensitive stuff. I love it!

...Just watched it. I haven't watched it for years, even though it's in the DVD pile. Now I know why. Think I need counselling now 🙁

It's bloody brilliant, mind.
