[#2523459]

8.17pm tonight the space station should be seen in the sky (if it's clear), we saw it last night at 7.52.

Face south then look up to the left, flashes past in about 20 seconds

Saw it a couple of days back, proper had a wriggle on and bright as you like (probably cos it had Discovery glued to it). Very visible with the naked eye, it's brighter and at least as fast as your average 737 (only bright white rather than flashy lights.

How high is it above the horizon? Low or straight up?

[edit] sorry, just read the link and noticed it gives angles!

Great find, looks like the shuttle is docked to it for the next few days, I guess that's why it's more visible to us.

Heavens Above web site has details for all types of non-UFOs ISS and other satellites.

Give Iridium flares a try. Quite cool/nerdy ๐Ÿ™‚

caught it on the 1846 pass over central Scotland tonight. thought it was slightly earlier, so had a couple of minutes of thinking "is that it?", but very obviously something different when it came into view.

I saw the 7.13 passing in south Manchester tonight, it was very impressive, really quick and eerily strange.

i had a look, didn't see it down here in London. A few more days to try although it's getting closer to the horizon which will make it trickier

It was really bright here even though there was a bit of cloud. I thought I'd missed in and then it appeared and went right over my head for a good two minutes.

Looking again tomorrow.

Also caught the 19:13 pass here in Blackpool, first time I've actually seen the thing. Very impressive, especially when it passed by the top corner of Orion. 8)

Sorry I didn't revive the thread before we went out, but we've just had a good view of Discovery and the ISS whizzing by on tonight's transit. Last chance for the shuttle will be 6.36ish Wednesday for UK viewers with the ISS a few minutes later. Tonight they were about four degrees apart and a nice view together in the 10x50 binoculars. The leading one we assumed was the ISS as it seemed to have multiple light sources, but the timings for Weds suggest the ISS is trailing?

Anyway thanks to JohnClimber for the initial heads-up, my kids thought it was awesome, as did I. I'll try to remember to PSA on Weds.
