Proper bargain if you're in the market for an Android phone. Seems to get super reviews everywhere and that is £150-200 less than anywhere else.

Direct from O2 and on their website. Ideal for someone wanting a decent phone to go with a sim only deal (though would need unlocking away from O2).

Oh and it comes with a free Google Chromecast and Andriod Lollipop has started rolling out for it and will be available in the UK very shortly.

Very tempted myself even as a WP fan as its a cracking phone and at that price can't go wrong...

Very good value, definitely the best compact smartphone. Though I just got a normal Z3 today with EE for £36 a month 20gb data allowance.

I've just pressed the button. Fed up with the weight of my Lumia 930 (although it is one of the very few smart phones I don't fear dropping - unless on my foot or something) and the Z3C will see me through until I can upgrade properly when hopefully MS will have some flagship WP10 phones out.

Then flog the Z3 and probably not lose too much on it.

Was going to go for this but think the screen might be a bit too small for what I want, is it roughly the same size screen as an i phone 4?

According to Google:

z3 compact is 4.6" screen
iPhone4 is 3.5"

So quite a bit bigger.

Bit bigger than an iPhone 5, smaller than a 6

reading their t's and c's it says they won;t unlock a PAYG phone until you've had it for a year 🙁

Yes had a quick look and it looks like you have to select a tariff so cant use the phone with Giff Gaff?

Good phones, few friends have them and are happy with them. Waterproof too so no worries about having it in your camelbak or a jersey pocket in the rain.

There are a couple further down that say 'if you top up...you would get'
so not locked in

Will need to buy an unlock from ebay though

Maybe you'd be better off just sticking with ham radio?

Can they not be unlocked by a third party? I am on O2 anyway so was a great deal for me.

Love Sony's attention to detail - in the box was a screen protector for the front and back and a USB OTG cable. Great stuff.

Nice little phone and the screen is plenty big enough.

sticking with ham radio?

you do tend to get a lot of crackling with that.

Nowt wrong with ham radio. Given the choice of taking a handheld 2m/70cm transceiver or a mobile in to the wilderness as my only means of communication I know which I would take (and vice versa for just being able to chat to people I know).

Great phone love mine, but don't be tempted by the water proof claim, it's a warranty nightmare that Sony 99% of the time win. Pressure test is their means of testing, if it passes it was you're fault as the charging port cover wasn't in place "correctly"

I recommend the magnetic charger cable. Saves wear and tear on the seals

Have had a good play with mine and I must say I'm very impressed so far.

Nice screen, blisteringly fast and I like the light touch approach Sony have taken to skinning android.

Oh, and it's a lovely size!

Mine had 5mins in a pint of beer whilst mates rang it with no ill effects.
However....drop it face down on hard surface and it will smash. Unlike many phones, smashed screen equals complete death, digitiser goes too.

So to use this with giffgaff I can just add the £10 bundle when I buy the phone then bin that sim at the end of the month and use my giffgaff sim?

Glad to see it coming down in price! 'Tis the only phone I'd consider replacing my Moto G with.

@hh. I think this is a special offer on until 25 March and only from O2. It's at least £100 more anywhere else...

The rumour is* Sony are pulling out of the SmartPhone market, this might be the start of the end.

*says the guy who sits next to me. He does read a lot more on these topics than I.

would stick clear of lollipop until 5.1 - my nexus 10 seems a bit better now it is off 5.0, 5.01, 5.02 and onto 5.1.

I suppose this version was aptly named as Lollipop as it sucked.

I read the t's and c's on payg phones from O2 and it said you had to have them a year before they would unlock and 'unoffcial' unlocks looked to be a bit dodgy so I didn't buy in the end. Not much help for those that did buy, I know.

I used cellunlocker.net to unlock mine, cost £20 and I had the code the next day.
Great phone so far 🙂

O2 are refusing codes or so I have been told

I waited for an unlock code from someone on Ebay for 10 days, but I was then refunded as O2 couldn't supply a code due to 'a technical fault'.

😕

their own worst enemy - too many phone models and too confusing for the punter.

Too many Sony phone models? Don't try wading through the Samsung or HTC website then!

Would be a shame if Sony exited IMO. The Z3 compact, and its tablet big brother are both excellent and well-polished devices. The only grumble would be the flaps to cover the charging ports, but easily solved with the aforementioned magnetic charger.

Must be said I am delighted with mine. I cannot kill the battery during a waking day even if I really try and to cap it off it outputs high res audio via USB so have been playing around with external dacs and headphone amps.

Fast as and a really good size to boot - so what if Sony pull out. The phone will not stop working over night...

I got a z3 compact on contract to replace a z Earlier this week. As above I'll still have a phone even if Sony stop supporting it.
