Well that was lovely, you kinda knew something would turn up in the end for Lance, and it did twofold. As for Africa? well we'll have to wait until Xmas - perhaps!!

Great series.

Makes me wonder if there will be a series 3.. 😕

Great finish,I will miss it badly.

as much about the scenery as it was about the characters

Yup ,really nice and some subtle detail.
I got abushed by that wee scene at the pub, with Sheila and Lance.
Giving Lance support about his daughter and then, that hint of something
lost. 🙁

Its an absolute joy to watch. Series where you really do care about the characters are a rare thing indeed.

Absolutely brilliant.

Best TV I've seen in a long while.

Need to find series 1 now and savour it!

I haven't watched last night yet but it one of the best TV series of recent years.
It has a certain wistfulness to it, not sadness, just a yearning for a simple life in the countryside or a memory from childhood.

That scene was brilliantly well played and all the more jarring because she's been played so lightly up to that point.

It sums up why I love the programmes, it makes time for the characters and doesn't push to be making jokes all the time. It's so well acted not just by the main cast but all of the 'lesser' roles. The funny bits are generally superb when they come and are all the better for being given space to appreciate them and shows a real confidence in the script.

It was brilliant. A perfect ending...

Makes me wonder if there will be a series 3..

I reckon Mackenzie Crook will have learned from Ricky Gervais' formula...two series of 6 then a Christmas special.

Just bloody wonderful. Loved the end. Nothing to add to the comments here. Beautifully written, cast, acted, directed and filmed.

Too many unanswered questions for there not to be 3rd and 4th series.

"Have you got a syndrome?"

Just dawned on me that the mother in law, is actually her real mum 😀

Which brings on the thought of Imagining having Diana Rigg as your mother in law 😈

Now, where are those old avengers episodes...

Just watched the last one again, second time tonight! Toby Jones at the end, his face as he realises. A perfect encapsulation of what that means to Lance, after all those years of ring pulls. Goose bumps and tears both times I've watched it.

Top drawer telly. I hope there's more.

Oh, and the music. The whole series is way more than the sum of its parts. If you haven't, watch Muke's link above.

Absolutely loved it. Nothing to add to the comments above. Scenery, every single character is compelling and space around the jokes. But really it's all about the quality of the character performances. (And when I say performances - these guys seem to be able to act just with their wrinkles and facial hair.)

One question, what was the German guy looking for? Lance said he'd been mislead by someone else about there being gold - are we to take that at face value? Didn't a German gold coin turn up earlier? Have I missed something or is this stuff saved up for the Xmas episode?

Perfect TV, just fantastic.

I hope the BBC still finds resources to fund programs like that with all these cuts going on.

Gentle tv but with characters that are rounded and so well acted that it's a drama more than a comedy.

Proper welled up at the end there.

Mackenzie Crook is discussing Detectorists on Rad Mac on 6 Music now.

"A love letter to the English countryside"

Indeed

Had only seen the first episode, so got the lot from iPlayer for my jaunt to Florida this week.

What a delightful piece of television. A fine balance of comedy and drama, delivered to perfection by the cast.

Lance finding his gold was, well, television gold!
