MF - tried that tip but it wants me to setup a phone and my iphone doesn't get found by it despite having bluetooth switched on and discoverable

have I missed something?

I set up a Skype account on the Touchpad (free to do) then it worked.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree trying to pair it with your phone - it is the phone service on the Touchpad you are wanting to activate, not pair it with another device.

Blimey! Courier just turned up at the door with mine, wasn't expecting that after PCWorld's lack of communication. Had quick play and it seems to be pretty easy to use but will leave it charging for now ready for a serious play later.

Dam wish I could get one so cheap.

Is it too late now?

Keep watching - rumours say more may come on the market but they will go quickly. I punted and paid full price for one from Argos then they refunded me when they marked the price down. Everywhere else (selling at the cheap price) had already sold out or took orders only to then say they weren't able to fulfil them.

Just had an email from PCWorld saying my order's on the way and giving me a DHL tracking number, about 2 hours after it arrived by another courier. 🙄

I guess they haven't quite got to grips with IT yet.

Uplink - you don't need to use Skype, it's just a way of activating the keypad. It is just a 1 minute sign-up job and no need to hand over CC details or anything.

Right, so I've got the Touchpad, turned down the logging, downloaded the WebOS SDK to my PC, found out how to put it into developer mode so all ready to play and now Mrs R has discovered Angry Birds so I can't get near the thing. 😕 Knew I should have bought her an iPad.

I really need to stop playing with this 🙂

Anyway ...... there's also a WebOS update available from the System updates icon on the Settings page

This then makes a QuickOffice update available that now allows editing of Word and Excel docs + the ability to create docs

that's quite a significant upgrade IMO and makes it a much better tablet for work use
Now can I tether my iPhone to it?

Piece of piss

I was comfortable with it because ......

I didn't pay much for it
It's apparently very difficult to brick a Touchpad
It can be easily un-bricked

I've put the overclocking kernel on mine and with that and the reduced logging it's now noticeably faster - can't think why HP didn't make it faster by default. Getting the Kindle app working was a bit of a faff though. Now very pleased with it for a cheapo touchpad!

I guess they don't have them too fast to minimise overheating and resultant failures, although everything I have read says the overclocking doesn't seem to effect the heat output or increase crashing unless you go warp-speed to 1.9...

I've done few bits and pieces to mine and it's quite a cool bit of kit - this is coming from someone who has 2 iPhones and only uses them to make calls 🙂

I already have a kindle so didn't need to install that

I've gone to 1.5 to be on the safe side, apparently 1.7 is ok but 1.9 can be a bit flaky. Most of the time it only seems to use one of the CPUs and that's throttled back to a few MHz so can't see it frying itself.

It's easy once you've bypassed the EPS manifolds and rerouted the power to the main deflector dish.

lol! Next mission is to try to get it to stream mkv files from a uPnP server. Oh, and to find out how to turn off autocorrect, currently driving me round the bend, hObO <= supposed to be uPnP. 😈

I ended up buying a Motorola Xoom on Flash's recommendation. Well pleased with it I must say so!

I managed to get one but I'm having trouble getting it to link to my PC, I have a wired LAN & downloaded a program called Connectify to make my PC's Prism card a wireless hotspot, my smart phone connects to it instantly but the Touchpad won't - any ideas before I put it back in the box & bung it on Ebay?

Kato, you can buy me a pint in repayment, when you're not working and I'm in the bleeding country! (Mid -Sept is looking good, before a few weeks including Paris, Moscow, Barbados, Boston, Washington, Sydney and more...duw it's hard...)

I saw that Dell number, £235 @ Dixon's airport...Advent Vega still £180.

Sounds like with enough hot-rodding they can all be very good?

Refund eh? Now it makes almost more sense to buy one for full price and claim it... The wife did say she wanted something bigger than her HTC Wildfire to use.

if their purchasing price was higher than the HP defined minimum price level also illustrated in the table below and they have been activated/registrated within their webOS account before 23rd of August 2011

Ed: yeah, you had me wondering though for a minute

How's everyone getting on with theirs? - I think it's bloody great TBH

Rather than abandoning WebOS, HP have just released an update and there's now a version of Android Gingerbread working if folks want it too
Can't see the point of changing the OS myself though
