as a few people have been recommending them on here, here is an offer I spotted.
been thinking of the pentax optio w1 waterproof jobbie myself if I don't go for a dslr (canon 550d).

I've got an Optio waterproof camera from 2006. It's covered in dents and it's indestructible! It gets a bit fogged up inside if you take it over the recommended 2m deep, but dries out fine..
I'd get another one.

Really don't rate it to be honest. nasty interface, fidly to use and doesn't take very good pictures.
Unless they've improved them a lot I'd caution against.
great, sounds good. a tough camera suits me better than an expensive dslr.
how good are the pictures the pentax takes - would it be on par (or near enough) t) o the s95

My optio was ok for its time.. Not up to much by todays standards.
Another option is an Olympus mju tough. I got one for my ex a couple of years ago. colour quality was much better, as was having a wider angle lens. More external moving parts though, like the lens cover, so not sure how long lasting it would be compared to the pentax

I had Olympus mju tough. Well, infact I had 3...
First one - dead pixel from new.
Second one - Leaked
Third one - leaked again and now out of warranty.
