Er oh yeah, it's my 2007 5 and it's top pull, seatpost is 27.2mm so that makes it what, 28.4 clamp dia usually?

It looks like I'll be in the ironically named Holiday Inn again tonight from about 7 or so.

Damn, I'd assumed a later model/wider seat-tube. I don't think I have a proper shim but I'll take a look for a suitable bodge.

You have my mobile no, pls ping me a txt so that I have yours and can ring you to let you know if search turns up something.

Failing that, is there a shop into which I can pop to buy one?

Btw they all come oversized now but are supplied with shims...

Struggling to suggest a shop within walking distance.

EDIT - ah, you're not carless then. I'll still look and let you know but you stand a better chance with Merlin or Ribble if with car.
Ribble being closest.

found it, has a shim but that only takes it down to 31.8mm.
Any good?

Going offline now - will be in Preston. Call me if you want me to drop by at Marriott.

Aloha Preston.

I would love to have joined in with tonight's ride, but my bike is ...err in pieces at the moment. 😳

Should be back together by next week hopefully, so if this is happening again, it would be great to meet up with you lovely people.

Hopefully next time, eh .

Cougar, still coming apparently. Just hope it's slightly later than this suggests.

Brain farted my way straight past this.

Sorry, but I've checked my inbox and can find NO applications to ride on my land. The bloody cheek of some people.

Have a good one. Would loved to have joined you but off the bike on Dr's orders. I'm slowly going mad.

PS Ecky Thump the mech is the right size, cheers. The reception lady was most bemused.

"Hello Mr Grips, a gentlemen has dropped off a.. ummm.. device for you at the front desk..."

Shouldn't take you too long, depending where you are in Preston; half an hour maybe. M65 J3.

Might be nominally quicker going down the M61 from that side, thinking about it. It's half as far again, though.

So I'm going down the A675 then over the hill? Alternative is M61 J8 then around Chorley.

If your coming from preston, i always find it easier to come off the M61 at botany bay.

's the way I'd go (though I'm coming from the other direction).

It's signposted from the A675, you turn off just after a pub on the right. Follow the twistyturny into Rivi, then when you see the visitors' centre on the right you turn left up the road opposite.

I'll defer to others' suggestions though; I'm geographically challenged at the best of times.

I don't want to worry anyone, but there are some sort of blue-coloured gaps that have appeared in the perpetual dull greyness up above. I'm not quite sure what they are. I'll make some inquiries and if I get any answers, I'll let you know

don't worry, they'll soon pass and universal greyness will be restored.

Right, I'll be in a grey VW Passat, like a proper middle aged IT consultant STWer, with an Orage 5 that's by pure coincidence the exact same colour as my car.

I've just found that I won't be getting my car back today (it's in the garage after some myopic cow couldn't reverse out of a parking space without dragging her heavily battle-scarred Merc down the side of mine). So I'll be in a blue-ish Astra estate I think. I'm assuming I can load a bike into the back of it, I've not actually tried.

Should we, like, swap phone numbers or is that far too sensible? (Email will reach my phone, anyway)

Lord Lowey, Sir, please accept my most humble appologies for neglecting to submit the requisite applications to ride on your most green and pleasant of lands.

I've no need to describe my car, as I'll be parachuting in.

Might be on the hardtail though, as the Intense is being temperamental. Bloody thing!

How will we recognise binners? Listen for the sound of an annoying northern voice speaking too loudly?

In the same way as in le tour, the sponsors cavalcade travels before the peleton through the villages, showering the locals with their produce, I have a Greggs truck liberally distributing pies, pasties and sausage rolls 5 minutes before I arrive. You should see how far those blokes can frisbee a meat and taty pie. Breathtaking, it is!

Hmmmmm.... right, so my bike currently has a coil rear shock on from doing uplift days and is even more stupidly heavy than usual - should I attempt to change back to the air shock (and through cack-handedness somehow end up with a broken bike) or not is the question.

It's a pretty easy job, surely even I can't mess that up?

Or should I keep the coil shock as a ready-made excuse for my extreme slowness?

Questions questions......

I wouldn't worry about it. You'll be doing well (or really really badly) if you're slower than me. I am the archetypal ground anchor/rear gunner.

Actually, I'm going to try and sort the full suss out when i get home. I've even nipped to the LBS at lunch, and everyfink. Its hardly light, and climbs like an asthmatic hippo with me on it. But it is a right old laugh down San Marino, so it can earn its keep for a bloody change

I fear it's worse than we thought. There's some sort of bright ball thing in the sky, I think it must be an inbound meteor strike.

The cumuli are still nimbussing though.

I can't decided whether to run and hide in a cave or bow down and worship it.

That sounds like a challenge. Slow bike race? I warn you that I'm really rather good (bad).

Come on lads. We can't all be at the back.

Incidentally, how long's this little sojourn in terms of time / distance? Any ideas?

If I'm not at the back, I'll get disorientated.

And on that subject, can I raise a practical question at this point? Will we be stopping for the traditional mid-ride pint at the Black Dog once we've done San Marino. If not, I really will get disorientated.

I think it's a sensible precaution to consume some easily-digestible carbs mid-ride.

Don't ask me though, I get disoriented walking out of a Chinese take-away.

I'm planning on 2.5 hrs, no idea of mileage but can modify as appropriate.

EDIT - I think we should drag binners back up San Marino just because he protested 😈
Which would mean apres-ride beer rather than mid-ride, but I'm easily swayed.

A pint of Bumcocks Old Nobgobbler is the perfect preparation for the ice cream run. FACT!

Actually.... we always do the ice cream run, but not long back we decided to break with tradition and came down through the gardens. It was refreshingly step-tasticly and swich-backery fabness. If we're finishing late we could get away with the cheekyness 😀

Hit a minor snag.

My saddle pack with all my tools and spares in is in the boot of the car. Unfortunately, my car's in the garage (and I'm not).

Can I rely on the STW peloton (pelotoff?) for loans of essentials (inner tubes, hammers, harsh language etc) if I get a mechanical?

There's nowt that can't be fixed with bits of a dry stone wall

It's the best thing to use if you need to fix a dry stone wall, certainly. Not so good with punctures.
