ok, so i know i know him, unlike any of you, but i'm having a real issue finding him a present. below are my criteria...

something a bit special/different - its his 60th, he's great and after years of nice but not exciting presents, i feel he deserves something nice.

cheap - i've just finished uni, and am on an unpaid internship for another few weeks - my income is low, and he doesn't want anything expensive

something that can be delivered nicely from an online shop. i live in france, he lives in york

he doesn't drink whisky (i know what to expect on here 😉 )

he loves ale

he loves gliding - i was going to sort out a flight in the alps when he comes and visits in april, but i simply can't afford it, and i've d difficulty working out how to sort one - my french vocab isn't good enough.

he is happily married 😉

any ideas welcome!

would he appreciate flowers? No one ever gives men flowers and some do like them.

tickets for something? A match? a play?

Lesson in something? Circuit driving? cooking?

He loves ale so a subscription to the 52 week beer club at www.MyBreweryTap.co.uk? I am very impressed with the one I got anyway.

One of the things I bought my Dad, 64, on his birthday was a years subscription to National Geographic. Something a bit different, about £20 and gives him something to read on the bog.

What about a nice shaving kit with a real razor and a pure badger brush and you could always get a mirror as well and have it engraved.

You could buy a 20 minute trial flying lesson in a Cessna from most Flying schools at most airports. Great experience and sounds right up his street if he's into flying.

Usually about £40

thanks for the suggestions, really appreciate them! keep them coming!

not sure he can be bothered with wet shaving that much...
he's also part of the university air squadron (where he works), and as such gets to go up in some cool planes 🙂
not really into watching sport, and completely un-musical!
might look at a play or something...
beer club looks awesome, but is £80 🙁

i think that would require me being able to surf, and living somewhere near the sea 😉

however, that is VERY cool...

Rubbish?

Not only is he surfing, he is balancing the board on one foot whilst lassoing the end with his other foot as he does a handstand in the surf.

Bloody clever if you ask me.

A good quality chef's knife. Or a set of Bonty XR4 Team Issue 2.35 Tubeless tyres. They're good for us riders who will never see 56 again.

A hooker? Chances are at 60 it's been a while since he's had any. If you're on a budget, you could go for the low class, skanky crack who' type.

🙂

****in ell, I knew about the hand/claw arrangement, but never realised he'd had nipples replaced with hooks as well - must be a right bugger when he wears a string vest!

Tho out of your budget, I took my old man to Barcelona for his 60th birthday. We had a weekend of beer and watched Barca play Valencia at the Camp Nou.

CharlieMungus - my dad's impression of them is that they are there for if a plane fails, NOT for fun... 😉

I may contact Juan... if he's forgiven me for a previous encounter...
