Anyone got any recommendations on good quality pots and pans that will last a good few years, don’t cost a kings ransom and are non stick without the nasty chemicals?

Woody

We've got the midrange John Lewis Classic metal pots and pans, they do a load of options and haven't fallen apart unlike some we've had over the years. Lots of options like

https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-classic-stainless-steel-lidded-saucepan-set-3-piece/p2647369

You only need nonstick for frying, nothing else. We've a carbon steel frying pan for meat and veg, and have a Teflon pan that is pretty much limited to eggs.

We are more than happy with our cusinepro pans......

Will say how ever looking at the reviews of their customer service I hope I never have to try the warranty.... But then I haven't spent a kings ransom compared to some of the crazy options put forward - le crusette at a 100 quid a pan.....

John Lewis shine 5 piece set here, 90 quid, bomb proof...ok dishwasher proof. Hard water area so regular soak in vinegar. Must be 10 years old now and no scratches, burns, lost rivets, cracked lids etc. Willmdeffo Buy them again or I saw Sainsburys had some nice own brand sets last visit.

Agreed and non-stick frying pans aren't very good anyway.

A selection of cast iron pans?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/12-Inch-Skillet-Pre-Seasoned-Including-Silicone/dp/B07J5SMM71/ref=sr_1_2_sspa

Lodge if you're feeling flush, Amazon's Choice if not?

Aga pots, totally bombproof. Although their frying pan (non-stick) was awful.

I got my circulon frying pans from Amazon years ago at a good price. I'm very happy with them. Ptfe-free too!

My other pans are IKEA 365 (uncoated) and they're great. Easy to clean.

why is that do you mind me asking? our last set of pans were some white coating that my wife was raving about, but they havent been as easy to clean as non-stick. how come you think that 'non non-stick' are better?

Has anyone got any experience of the easiglide pans you can get at John Lewis?

All non stick pans I've used over the years scratch eventually when using metal implements.

I've never had it be an issue that a stainless pan is sticky.

I mostly cook on a BBQ....it's not non stick.

I just don't see non stick as a benifit unless your in the habit of burning shit to the bottom of it regularly which I could see being a pain to get off.

Aye, non stick doesn't last, even the ninety quid Berndes pan died after a few years.

Wife's grandparents bought us a set of inexpensive imperial stainless pans, spot welded handles, as a moving in present in 1999, they'll survive a nuclear war.

Used every day, we both cook all the time, have been brilliant.

The Vogue stuff from Nisbetts is professional kitchen quality and well worth a look. Not pretty but indestructible.

Proper non-stick is great for omelettes and scrambled eggs, but I get angry if the egg pan is used for anything else 🙂

Exactly this. For everything else stainless steel, enamel and a cast iron skillet for that old-school feeling 🙂

We mostly use stainless steel pans but we do have a nonstick frying pan for the more sticky eggy stuff. But if the eggs are fresh it's possible to fry in the stainless steel successfully (but not guaranteed). Cast iron ridged skillet for steaks, tuna etc.

And FWIW most of my pans are from IKEA, except the non-stick which is whatever's on offer at the local supermarket. Usually end up replacing this every couple of years after the MiL has taken a metal fork to it to cook god knows what 🙄

Once the non stick begins to fail (which it does) they are stickier than non non stick.

Proper non-stick is great for omelettes and scrambled eggs

Small well seasoned steel omelette pan for omelette (of course). Non stick fine for scrambled, just watch the temperature isn't too high.

Omlettes and fried eggs in a stainless pan here.

I find eggs cooked at a high enough temp to stick to the pan have a texture like rubber anyway.

Yeah that didn't work.

User error as I had been doing it out in NZ without issue.

I blame the climate 🙂

We have a Meyer set that has been great.

Not nonstick, but as others have said we only bother with nonstick for our frying pans and wok type pan.

I recently got some Kuhn Rikon saucepans - cost over £50 which means they send a free ~20cm non-stick frying pan with it that is the best non-stick frying pan I've ever had. Saucepans are good too, glass lids and stack nicely.
