I recently bought a pair of 29er singlespeed wheels of here (velofrog) Mike Ruxton His description and email response was fine, purchased the wheels, received them and they looked fine and in the condition as described, so was happy, i started to put the tyres on but could for the life of me get anywhere near with the front tyre, i tried various ones i had in my garage, different makes etc but couldn't even get one side on, so i email mike asking him what tyres he used? which he replied quickly with he bought them of someone and the tyres were not fitted so he could vouch that they had ever been on so said keep trying, so i took the wheel and my various tyre's to my LBS and for a couple of our he tried i tried with my tyre's some he had, but non got anywhere near, although we did manage to get one side of one tyre just on, but no chance of the other side, then took 30 mins to get it of!!! so i emailed Mike again telling him the issue to which he then replied it had had a 2.35 Nobby nic on, so i quizzed him saying why he said he hadn't and now changed his mind to say he had, his response was he wasn't happy with me calling him a lyer, so i emailed him asking for him to send me the tyre to see if it would go on, if it did i said i would drop the matter, anyway that was 2 week ago with no reply, i know its not a major issue but honesty is the key word here, im left with a wheel that i'm going to have to buy a new rim and re-spoke, costing me near £100 and he has just walked away. So if any one knows him, give him a nudge or beware

Hardly a fellow STW - he's put about 10 classified ads up. If it was one of us [i]special[/i] lot, we'd not lie to ya jonny, onest we wouldn't

Ryde rim you say? Look on the bright side - if you do manage to get the tyre on, first sniff of a rock will have you needing a new rim anyway.

To be fair, think I have bought off Jonny in the past, and it was excellent, just as described.

Its just the 4,000 ads for that brown NS Rag 90mm stem that caused the frustration, day after day. Sorry.

Dude; 3-5 listings max. If it doesnt sell off to ebay or the local bike charity, or offer it free with the next thing you sell.

I’ve never heard of a rim being manufactured oversize by mistake

I had a set of Easton EA50 rims that were a pig to get tyres on. Emailed Easton and they said there were a batch that were slightly oversized. Sent them off, got them back and was much easier to deal with after that.

Asking someone to send you a tyre just to try is hardly a faff-free or cost-free experience for them yet that seems to be what you're expecting. Your implication seems to be he only sold them on as he couldn't get tyres to fit himself so I don't think this reads as just a 'poor response' post.

I can half see Jonny's frustration, but wonder if the seller initially meant they just hadn't tried to fit the tyre's that were with the wheels? But I'm just speculating. I've bought and sold on the classified's for year's, including from Jonny I think, and only ever had one slightly bum deal. I don't really have an issue with user's that just frequent the classified's either, not everyone wants to argue the same 1x versus front mech post ad finitum, those thread's alone feel like the FS - NS rag stem ad only they take far longer to read!
