[#11177349]

Cycling home from work tonight I saw 4 helicopters doing set circuits at low level (prob 100ft). Until COVID in the same area you would see similar circuits/movements.

It was a mixture of police helicopters and ‘other’ helicopters.

I’ve even seen 2 police helicopters at very low level where I live in the hills last summer actually looking like they were just having a bit of fun.

I’m assuming all the activity is linked to a NPAS training facility but googling brings up nothing!

It’s in deepest sleepy Shropshire between Knockin and Baschurch

Any ideas anyone?

Shropshire way puts you fairly near RAF Shawbury, the military rotary training hub.

Seemingly extra activity around Benson and Odiham, but it has been quiet so maybe we’re just back to normal.

How could you tell they were police helicopters?

Because they are approx 100ft from the ground doing very slow circuits, in Police helicopter livery

Were the ones that didn't have POLICE written on the side working undercover?

Makes you think eh?

That’s my theory. The fields around are full of naught bunny rabbits that are not adhering to social distancing. I did think the helicopters have been drafted in to sort them out.

Joking aside it’s been quiet for weeks and then them all out again yesterday. (Helicopters, not rabbits)

As said above, the helicopters will be from RAF Shawbury, which is the home of the Defence Helicopter Flying School.

RAF SHAWBURY

Sounds like they were near the Nescliffe Training area, used by NPAS as it has(according to wiki) 4 x 75ft helipads.

Yes its very close to that area / over it. Just a bit odd that the Police use it for their training + the occasional jolly to the Welsh boarder for some flying in the hills.

The RAF helicopters from Shawbury look very much like police helicopters & can easily be mistaken for them. Perhaps this is the case?

It isn’t just a Police livery. It is a colour scheme designed to make low flying helicopters as conspicuous as possible Thus:

Which is why I asked how you knew it was the fuzz.
