[Closed] Plastic outdoor storage unit (not for bikes btw)

We're in need of some extra outdoor storage space for things like the BBQ, small table and chairs etc. Ideally I'd build something myself but am in a catch 22 situation. I need to get the stuff out of the shed to clear space to get on with other stuff. Plus the current weather is not ideal for outdoor work.

A quick solution is a plastic storage shed from Keter like this https://www.keter.com/en/store-it-out-max

It only really needs to be weatherproof, nothing valuable will be in there.

Has anyone got one of these plastic sheds?

Yes. I’ve got one. In fact I’m thinking of getting rid and replacing it with something wooden. Where are you based?

In my experience those keter things just seem to fall to bits.

You can get better for less. Have a Google. Wooden would be better for lack of condensensation. Don't go for a metal one. They're really crap. Ours gets mould in it, as do the contents 🙄

In true STW fashion..... we replaced a wooden shed with a keter one (dark, manky corner of the garden, wood was permeated and rotten), keter has been perfect, never leaked and annual maintenance is a wipe down, unlike the wooden gazebo - we need to triple coat that with Cuprinol 6 year paint every two years.....
FYI Costco do keter

We have one for the mower etc. It's falling to pieces. The plastic may well last a million years, but the hinges pulled out of the lid in the first year.

At some point I need to get a proper shed for garden stuff.

It's kinda OK. But at the same time utterly shit. With a bit of thought you could probably DIY something significantly better for £80-£100 or whatever it originally cost.

I have three at my caravan.

The oldest one is about fifteen years old.

They’ve never leaked, one burst hinge replaced, no mould or anything. An occasional blast with the pressure washer is all they need

They’ve been brilliant.

Not in any way secure though. A five year old could bust into one in sixty seconds.

Keter store at my caravan, about 3x6 and 6ft tall. Just to store lawn mower, charirs etc. No issues and it must be a good 15 years old, if a bit sun bleached now.

Thanks, 4 to 3 against so far then... Any idea how long the warranty is?

We have two - as said, weatherproof and maintenance free if not entirely secure. Got them when Amazon had them cheap.

Cheap timber sheds are crap too. If I was DIYing something decent I couldn’t even buy the wood for £100.

I’ve had one of those plastic ones too. Pretty robust, secure enough to deter the opportunist and waterproof. Used to keep my mower in it with garden tools and it kept them all dry and in fully working order for the several years I had it.

Just to point out the people who don't have problems with them have them at their caravans, I.e. not being opened and closed frequently.

Bit like saying dura ace is great, had it on your race bike all year and not missed a shift once. But Deore on your commute is rubbish, it was rusty in a couple of months.

Maybe tomorrow I'll get some ply and some felt and make a tougher lid for it that the hinges won't pull out of.

We store lots of paper bags and display stands round the back of our shop in a very sturdy keter storage box.

Got it from Costco , think it was called the elite.

No leaks, no damp . Very happy with it.

I.e. not being opened and closed frequently.

It would mainly contain items for sunny weather and I'm north of the border, so... perfect?

My dad doesn’t have a caravan, he has his keter box in his garden, he opens and closes it frequently, he had done for over 10 years
The hinges have not dropped off
Just saying

I reckon we're at our caravan probably 70 days a year and the boxes with all the kids stuff in it gets opened and closed  at least a dozen times each day to retrieve footballs / skateboards / bikes  / scooters and, except when I open it in the morning and lock it again at night, it's never done gently.

So conservatively 700 times a year or roughly equivalent to twice a day.

I've got the one in the link in the original post, its really good. we use ours to store cushions for the garden furniture (not at a caravan ;-)).

It keeps them nicely dry.

As others have said , it isnt remotely secure, so if you're intending to store something of value to thieves then look elsewhere.

We have one exactly the same as the linked version. Had it a year or two and use it to store wellies, prams, garden tools, out door toys, deck chairs, etc. Had it full to bursting point with stuff just randomly chucked in and it's still going strong and we've had no complaints at all. Would highly recommend.

Have 3 of the Keter Max - only reason one broke is because the wind caught it and before anyone says” well its plastic...” - the wind took the box complete with a petrol mower, strimmer, buckets and garden tools from where it was over a 4ft wall and across next doors garden. Lid hinges were a little out of shape and the bottom plastic ones were damaged BUT its still works almost as it should.

Decided I will get one, even if it's just a temporary stop gap until I figure out where everything can live. Thanks all
