A housemate's brother is visiting tomorrow and we're doing a night out, but wanted to find somewhere to eat beforehand. We're students, so nothing fancy/formal/expensive, somewhere mid-market with decent food is what we're after; foreign cuisine very much encouraged. Would be good if you can turn up without booking, but I understand this may be difficult on a Saturaday evening. Any recommendations?

Stroll up Mansfield road. Lobster pot used to be amazing and I'm sure there are nice mexicans up there too!

Desi Downtown and Chennai both do decent currys. Desi are pretty tolerant of beer users.

Petit Paris has a ten or fifteen quid pretheatre menu, think Bistrot Pierre does too. Both do spot on food. French Living is decent too.

Thanks, we decided on Kayal as a friend had also heard of it and has had it recommended, I'm looking forward to it. Will keep the others in mind as we are planning to do more eating out.

You should pop over to Ilkeston, spotted a sign for a deep fried snickers in a chippy the other day!

Maybe too late, but try Las Iguanas - right in the centre and very, very nice.

The other option is to order online, I use hungryhouse myself. here's the link for nottingham takeaway. Great food, great atmosphere and you can have a few 'beverages'! before you head out!!
