Struggling to see how uniquely British place names show how we’re very much European

Because many many of them (though not the rude ones) show French, or Norman, or Roman, Norse heritage.

We are (as they saying goes) a mongrel nation, with a rich history* and stronger for it. Much of that has left its mark on places naming.

*Cheating, treachery, warfare, disease, invasion, skulduggery. Enough to make you proud!

Indeed - Even the english language is actually a mix of other european languages - One reason why its so awkward and has such a large vocabulary.  German, French, latin, Norse words all jumbled together

Opposite sides of Ashbourne are Virgins Alley and Ladyhole Lane.
